WHEW! What a day for the #elitemafia. We had a couple subs take down some monster tournaments and the best part? They did it themselves. You guys are learning. I didn’t mention Kane. I mentioned Lewa as a low-owned forward in chat but neither made the article because there were so many good options. Fading the chalk is never fun unless there are viable options to replace them. Great spot to do it and great builds by the crew.
Our core 4 smashed. We got a bit unlucky not to take down more money than we did. The red card to Olympiacos opened the floodgates for chalky Marko Marin to unload second half. Any day in the green is a good day.
To the desert!
-FC Barcelona -165 3 (+105o/-125u)
-Lille +260 2.5 (-120o/EVENu)
-Liverpool -290 3.5 (-125o/+105u)
FC Salzburg +800
-RB Leipzig -155 3 (-125o/+105u)
-Valencia +150 3 (+110o/-135u)
-Zenit +135 2.5 (-115o/-105u)
In general, a much tighter slate that doesn’t feature the huge favorite. Liverpool are the biggest favorites and are at home. Surely we’ll grab some pieces there. Messi is back!
No blood in this group as all four teams drew their first game. This game is super interesting as we basically have two teams heading in opposite directions. Inter seem to be finding their feet under new manager Antonio Conte, and Barca have been rudderless without their maestro, Lionel Messi. Well, he’s back, and Barca are decent favorites here.
This was always going to be a tough group for Lille but they were hammered 3-0 by Ajax in GW 1. Don’t get me wrong, Lille had their moments. They fired 17 shots but only five hit the target and none found the net. Knowing how wide open Chelsea play, this could be an interesting little game stack opportunity.
Chelsea could have and should have avoided the loss to Valencia, but thanks to a missed pen by Ross Barkley, these two teams are bottom of the group. Chelsea are road favorites and have yet to show the propensity to sit deep.
Liverpool could legitimately ruin Salzburg, who are feisty in their own right. Pool lost 2-0 to Napoli in GW 1 and looked fairly poor in doing so. Heading to Italy was always going to be tough but they expected at least a point. Unfortunately for Salzburg, they are the next team up and get the wrath.
HOWEVER (Stephen A Smith voice) the least amount of goals that Salzburg have scored in a game this season is????? Two. Seriously, they’ve scored at least two goals in every game this year. They put six past a hapless Genk team. This game will be very popular for many reasons.
Leipzig sit top of the group after their 2-1 win away to Benfica, an impressive result. Prior to getting curb stomped by Schalke they were in great form and undefeated on the season. Lyon aren’t exactly a walk over but this a bounce back game. Werner will be popular.
Lyon are quite the opposite. Winless since August 16th. They were also shut out in two of their last three. Mostly avoidable for me.
Valencia are conservative and Ajax are balls to the wall. I love the clash of styles that the Champions League brings us every year. This game is a perfect example of the many different ways to be effective in football. I have to admit the Valencia win over Chelsea came out of left field for me. They weren’t playing well, had just sacked their manager and overall looked to be in shambles. They put together a hell of performance and have since gone on to pick up two draws and a win in La Liga. Not bad, not bad.
Ajax are buzzing. After beating Lille 3-0 they tied PSV 1-1 in a battle for the top in the Eredivisie. Since then it’s been a 5-0 and 2-0 win. For all the plaudits of the Ajax attack, their defense is a bit underrated even after the loss of de Ligt.
Is anyone going to roster anyone from this game?
Probably not but here’s my two cents on how the game will go: It’s October in Russia. Benfica are coming off the beach in Portugal. Ze Russians for the win!
- Messi – BAR – $10.8k
The word I’m hearing is he’s healthy and ready to go. If that’s the case, I’m glad to get him under $12k. I don’t care how defensive Conte sets up his team, Messi is a killer.
- Salah – LIV – $10.5k
The top play on a slate without Messi in this matchup. There could easily be five goals scored in this game. We need shares.
- Werner – RBL – $8.9k
Forwards in form. Check! Lyon are not in good form.
- Haaland – RBS – $6.5k
This is a huge test for this 19-year-old and he’s not cash viable for me at this time but he’s in the GPP pool. I see Red Bull grabbing a goal here.
- Willian – CHE – $8k
Seems to be finding fitness at the moment. Had a great game at the weekend and Mount is struggling for form. If one of them is dropped, it should be Mount. That would give Willian a monopoly on set pieces in a game that will have goals.
- Driussi – ZEN – $6.2k
I don’t want a ton from this game but I’ll take Driussi over Dzyuba or Azmoun for the floor help.
- A Sanchez – INT – $5.8k
No, seriously. Picked up two yellows and was sent off over the weekend BUT not before he scored a couple goals. OK ok yes one was a shot that hit his back and went in. Those are the goals we love as forwards when things are going well. Oh, and this is kind of a revenge game for Sanchez who played several years at Barca.
- Depay – LYO – $8.2k
I don’t like Lyon in this game, but if there is one player to grab, it’s him. Does everything. Sets. Pens. Shots from half field.
- Ziyech – AJA – $8.6k
This is basically free for him. Lock and load in cash.
- Bamba – LIL – $6.2k
Chelsea concede goals. It’s what they do. Bamba and his four shots, three shots assisted and two crosses provides us a great opportunity to grab shares while limiting our true bust risk. Very dynamic player that might attract some interest from the big boys soon.
- R Moreno – VAL – $6k
He actually leads the line for Valencia but carries the M/F tag giving you some flexibility. Ajax are pretty solid defensively but at a position without a ton of goal upside I like this play for GPPs. You’d think Valencia would pay with more drive at home than they showed on the road to Chelsea.
- Jonuzovic – RBS – $5.1k
Everyone was giving me shit because I was so high on this guy and all he does is go out and grab us 21.8 pts while picking up two assists. That’s likely his ceiling. We play him for his floor. Good price in a tough matchup for set piece shares.
- Ikone – LIL – $5k
Don’t like Bamba? Grab the guy across the field from him. These two create the danger in the final third. GPP only.
- Mount – CHE – $7.4k
I mentioned above he should be benched but if Lampard sticks with him he’s in consideration for deeper GPP builds.
- Klostermann – RBL – $3.9k
Didn’t play last game but if he starts, he’s a lock for my roster.
- Alexander-Arnold – LIV – $6.7k
The price is way up there but this game is going to shoot out. TAA will have a piece of a goal. Is that enough??
- Ulmer – RBS – $5k
A stat accumulator who’s logs are spiked by the goal but I like everything else. A defender with five shots assisted?! Cheaper than the boys listed just below as well.
- Tagliafico – AJA – $5.6k
On the road but you know Ajax. Attack attack attack.
- Grimaldo – BEN – $5.3k
He’s lost a bit of his upside but the floor is so solid.
- Alonso – CHE – $5.4k
IF they were at home and I knew he was starting I’d have him in the two or three hole here. When he’s in he’s involved in the attack and Chelsea will be doing some of that tomorrow.
- Lunev – ZEN – $5k
- Ter Stegen – BAR – $5.7k
- Maignon – LIL – $4.3k
- Onana – AJA – $4.7k
