Key Injury News to Watch:
Toronto Raptors – OG Anunoby is questionable and should he sit, it opens up Norman Powell as a starter but really increases usage of Lowry, Siakam and VanVleet. Also makes it easier for Chris Boucher to close which would be a nice cherry on top but not required to make him a great GPP play.
Utah Jazz – Donovan Mitchell is in the concussion protocol so I’d expect us to get word early on his status for the game. Should he sit again Jordan Clarkson and Joe Ingles move into the core territory as they are massively underpriced. Gobert also sees a usage bump with no Mitchell but this could be the most loaded center slate of the year; hard for me to see how I get to him. EDIT: Mitchell has been ruled out.
Philadelphia 76ers – Joel Embiid is questionable with a back injury that’s been plaguing him. It certainly couldn’t have helped when LeBron took a shot to it during the game on Wednesday but he did stay in the game. If Embiid plays, he’s an elite option (my model projects him at over 63 DK points lol). If he sits, we get to play the Tony Bradley vs Dwight Howard roulette game in a dream match-up.
Key Games:
Brooklyn Nets @ Oklahoma City Thunder – Kevin Durant is sitting out for “ankle load management”, I for one think he’s gone to the Kyrie school of being a complete wuss and not wanting to get booed but that’s just me. Regardless, without Durant the opportunity is there for Kyrie and Harden ceiling games. We haven’t seen the Harden usage really climb that much in minutes without Durant this year but we are still working on a small sample size. I wanted to be on the fade Harden train til he was in the 8k range because we haven’t seen the usage to warrant this tag; however, the reason why I’m torn on Harden is he’ll get lots of minutes against the Thunder bench (and I love me some Thunder bench minutes). The Thunder bench is so bad that it’s enough to give him a ceiling at his price tag even at decent ownership. I’m torn on whether it will actually happen or whether Kyrie will be at near 37.5% USG again and Harden will just end u pbeing a big bust. The options in this game are simple but we’ll need to be right on the Nets to win GPP’s tonight.
Sacramento Kings @ Toronto Raptors – The first time these teams played it was a classic western shootout with the Kings shooting faltering late to a 144-123 defeat that was closer than the final score would indicate. The Kings have shown a propensity to play their starters huge minutes in winnable games and punt the non-winnable ones. A game against Toronto and a 5.5-point spread would have me wondering except we saw them all play huge minutes when these teams played in Sacramento. That being said this is a front end of a back-to-back so there is always potential for the Kings to give up on this game early and try to win tomorrow in Miami. (Personally, think they should have a quick hook on the back end of a 3 in 4 vs a better Heat team but you never know what Luke Walton is thinking.) If we get a replay of the first meeting, GPP’s will be won by playing this game and it’s one I want to be overweight on tonight.
San Antonio Spurs @ Denver Nuggets – This game won’t have the pace that SAC/TOR could but it does have two teams trying to improve their playoff standing in a big game. Mike Malone in the 2nd half of his last game debuted a 8-man rotation which led to a huge comeback win. If that stays, it makes all the Nuggets starters along with Michael Porter Jr. and JaMychal Green fantastic tournament options. The Spurs have also been playing their starters big minutes with DeJounte Murray frequently flirting with 35 minutes and Keldon Johnson not too far behind. While PG is very strong tonight, a contrarian Murray with a ceiling game is a GPP winning type option and you have lots of Nuggets to correlate with.
