Just two games on the schedule tonight. Ryan Clifford gives you a rundown of top DFS plays for your main slate and showdown lineups.
As always, you’ll find at least one of us in chat in the hour leading up to lock. Please join us there for any late scratches, goalie changes, or other DFS news.
We also have an NHL dedicated Twitter account where you’ll find important news and updates, as well as curated beat writer lists broken down by team.
Also new this season, my personal NHL projections and models are available for download under the projections section of the NHL tab. Of course, you can still access all player projections in our Fantasy Cruncher powered optimizer.
Detroit Red Wings @ Tampa Bay Lightning
It shouldn’t come as much of a surprise that this matchup is essentially breaking my model. Both a season high and season low in projected goals here: Tampa Bay 4.7 – Detroit 0.9.
We will want to target the Lightning here. Anthony Cirelli, Tyler Johnson, and Alex Killorn will be tasked with keeping Dylan Larkin in check tonight. Larkin and Bobby Ryan would be the only Red Wing forwards that I’d want to touch in DFS tonight, but that’s definitely not a line that would force me to shy away from Cirelli and co.
That should also leave Brayden Point, Steven Stamkos, and Ondrej Palat to run wild against this lowly Red Wing depth. These three should be the guys you are targeting tonight. Pretty much every DFS lineup will start with TB1 or BOS1. I do like the Bruins top liners, but this matchup is just too good to pass up.
If you do choose to go with Bruins to start your lineup, the ideal stacking partners with them would be Blake Coleman, Yanni Gourde, and/or Barclay Goodrow. All three are insanely cheap, but Coleman pops as the biggest value of the bunch.
Victor Hedman is a near-lock for me tonight. There isn’t a defenseman on the slate that even comes remotely close to the floor and upside Hedman gives you. Pay up.
I have Andrei Vasilevskiy projected for just about 22 shots against, so while he may be an option in Showdown lineups, I’d probably target Carter Hart if fading Bruins tonight.
Top GPP Plays: Brayden Point, Steven Stamkos, Ondrej Palat, Anthony Cirelli, Tyler Johnson, Alex Killorn, Blake Coleman, Victor Hedman, Dylan Larkin, Bobby Ryan
Favorite Showdown CAPT Options: Brayden Point, Steven Stamkos, Ondrej Palat, Tyler Johnson, Victor Hedman
Boston Bruins @ Philadelphia Flyers
This will be the third meeting of the season between these teams. Boston won the first two, scoring a total of 11 goals in those games. Despite the outcomes, I do have Philadelphia projected to win tonight, in what looks like it could be a low-scoring affair; Philadelphia 2.8 – Boston 1.7 per my model.
David Pastrnak returned to Boston’s lineup on Monday night, scoring twice in his season debut. The Bruins return to a one-line team, by and large, with Pastrnak, Brad Marchand, and Patrice Bergeron accounting for most of this team’s scoring when together.
I think Charlie Coyle, Craig Smith, and maybe even Nick Ritchie are useable option in Showdown lineups, but I’m not sure any of them make my GPP lineups on the two-gamer.
For the Flyers, this is a deep roster. Even with Sean Couturier out of the lineup, they’re still icing three very solid lines. There isn’t any kind of line matching happening with Couturier out, so no need to worry about anyone getting shut down by Bergeron.
All three Flyers lines are cheap enough to fit with TB1 and Hedman, so have your pick! I prefer Claude Giroux, Nolan Patrick, and Jakub Voracek, as they’ll get more ice time than any of the other forwards, correlating fully on the team’s top power play.
On defense, Ivan Provorov is probably the ideal DFS option from a raw points perspective, but Shayne Gostisbehere is cheap enough that he grades out as the top value of the unit.
Carter Hart is my top goalie on the slate. It will all come down to how well the Flyers can do in shutting down BOS1. With the game in Philly, I have a bit more confidence in them doing so.
Top GPP Plays: David Pastrnak, Patrice Bergeron, Brad Marchand, Claude Giroux, Jakub Voracek, Nolan Patrick, Shayne Gostisbehere, Carter Hart
Favorite Showdown CAPT Options: David Pastrnak, Patrice Bergeron, Brad Marchand, Claude Giroux, Jakub Voracek, Travis Konecny, James van Riemsdyk, Joel Farabee, Carter Hart
Here are my top options in goal…
- Carter Hart (PHI)
- Andrei Vasilevskiy (TB)
- Tuukka Rask (BOS)
- Thomas Greiss (DET)
