A four-game slate in on tap as the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs continues tonight. Here’s a full breakdown of today’s NHL DFS options for your DraftKings, FanDuel, and SuperDraft lineups.
As always, you’ll find at least one of us in chat in the hour leading up to lock. Please join us there for any late scratches, goalie changes, or other DFS news.
We also have an NHL dedicated Twitter account where you’ll find important news and updates, as well as curated beat writer lists broken down by team.
Also new this season, my personal NHL projections and models are available for download under the projections section of the NHL tab. Of course, you can still access all player projections in our Fantasy Cruncher powered optimizer.
Slate Preview: Game/Team Projections
Top GPP Stacks
NYI1: Jordan Eberle/Mathew Barzal/Noah Dobson – With three of four games on tonight’s slate moving onto game three, you’ll notice some wildly different projections than we saw in the first two games of the series. This, of course, is because there will be venue changes for these teams, and you start weighing home/road splits a lot more. So, while I was high on Pittsburgh in the first two games, they will be the road team tonight, facing an Islanders team that has shined on home ice this season. While I really like Barzal and Eberle, and the matchups they’re likely to get tonight; Leo Komarov does nothing for me, and I’d rather stick Dobson onto the stack for power play correlation and the higher floor he brings to the table.
NYI2: Anthony Beauvillier/Brock Nelson/Josh Bailey – Now, if you want to be a little different, the Nelson line will very likely have a fraction of the ownership that Barzal and co. will get. Beauvillier is especially attractive to me as he’ll be getting PP1 time with Barzal and Eberle (perhaps another combination to consider stacking together?). Beau is just coming off of an 8-game point streak, and Nelson has been riding shotgun, averaging a point-per-game himself going back to late April. Josh Bailey isn’t far behind, with 8 points (1G 7A) in his last 9 games, and is far too cheap for DFS purposes tonight.
TB1: Nikita Kucherov/Brayden Point/Ondrej Palat – Kucherov stepped onto the ice for the first time this season on Sunday, and put up a pair of goals and a pair of assists in two games against the Panthers…not bad, eh? Tonight Tampa switches to home ice, which means better matchups and more quality ice time for Point and Kucherov. The upside is immense for the Lightning here, and whether you’re stacking up this top line, or using some combination of Kucherov, Stamkos, and Hedman for power play correlation, or even just using Kucherov as a one-off; getting some Lightning exposure will be my top priority tonight. Luckily, there is plenty of value available on the slate to make that work.
VGK1: Mark Stone/Chandler Stephenson/Alex Tuch – No Max Pacioretty yet for the Golden Knights. This isn’t great for them at the team level, but good for us in DFS-land, as Alex Tuch’s $4,500 salary makes stacking this line much more manageable on a night where we’re intent on fitting Kucherov into lineups. Power play correlation has become scattered, with Stone on PP1, and Stephenson/Tuch on PP2; so if you’re looking to add a Golden Knight defenseman to the stack, just take your pick. Theodore, Pietrangelo, or Martinez are all elite options on this slate.
Cash Plays and GPP One-Offs
I use a composite projection for cash plays and GPP one-offs (one in the same for me). This projection factors in projection, projected shots on goal, and floor.
