Tonight, it all comes down to one question: “To Harden or not to Harden?” I know that’s been a relevant question for some time now, however, his salary is trending upward, making him harder and harder to roster. In my opinion, he’s still a fine play from his end, but the issue is…
- Steph Curry
- Jalen Brunson (low upside value play if +D. Smith, Jr. sits)
- Kyrie Irving (GPP)
- Mike Conley (GPP/ gets a boost if +M. Gasol sits)
- +Damian Lillard (GPP)
Honorable Mention: Seth Curry as a value play if +D. Lillard sits
- James Harden
- Donovan Mitchell (cash game pivot from James Harden)
- Luka Doncic (GPP)
- DeMar DeRozan (GPP)
- D’Angelo Russell (cash/GPP- stronger minutes floor if +S. Napier sits)
Honorable Mention: C.J. McCollum gets a bump if +D. Lillard sits and becomes a strong cash game play
- Kevin Durant
- Giannis Antetokounmpo (GPP)
- Kawhi Leonard (GPP)
- Gary Clark (punt option)
- Evan Turner (value play that becomes more stable if +M. Harkless sits)
Honorable Mention: Joe Ingles, Omri Casspi – additional punt play if +M. Gasol sits
- Maxi Kleber (value play as long as +D. Smith, Jr. sits)
- Anthony Davis (GPP)
- Montrezl Harrell
- P.J. Tucker
- Jaren Jackson, Jr. (GPP)
Honorable Mention: JaMychal Green in cash/GPPs if +M. Gasol sits

Tonight, it all comes down to one question: “To Harden or not to Harden?” I know that’s been a relevant question for some time now, however, his salary is trending upward, making him harder and harder to roster. In my opinion, he’s still a fine play from his end, but the issue is finding viable value plays to roster alongside him. I currently have him in a lineup, but he’s surrounded by a number of unsavory characters (i.e. low upside/low floor value plays). Value tends to loosen up prior to tip off, so being attentive could go a long way. The Nets at Rockets game is expected to be close (over/under of 221.5 with Houston favored by -4.0). If you do decide to roster Harden in tournaments, you might want to consider pairing him up with someone from Brooklyn. Dare I suggest D’Angelo Russell? I do.
As per usual, starting your tournament lineup with two stud shooting guards will give you a unique roster by default. There are many options to choose from, so don’t be shy. Pairing up guys like Jrue Holiday (NOR) and Klay Thompson (GSW) in what is expected to be a high-scoring affair might be an option, that is, if you consider an over/under of 240.0 “high-scoring.” If these guys don’t pique your interest, there are other options within this game that have sky high ceilings. It won’t take much work to find them.
A couple of games that could go “stealth mode” tonight include the San Antonio Spurs at Dallas Mavericks (over/under of 218.5 with Dallas favored by -1.0) and the Utah Jazz at Los Angeles Clippers (over/under of 222.0 with the Clippers favored by -2.0).
What was that? Did you say that starting your lineup with Giannis Antetokounmpo and Kawhi Leonard could be one of the sneakier strategies of the night? Never mind. I must have been hearing things.
If we don’t get word on Damian Lillard’s status prior to tip off and you want to get froggy, consider constructing a roster that includes exposure to multiple Portland players (i.e. CJ McCollum, Seth Curry, Evan Turner and Jusuf Nurkic). If that lineup goes off, you’ll look like a genius. If it doesn’t, your lineup will be at the bottom of the leaderboard and no one will be the wiser.
