– What’s up my peeps? Not only do we have an exciting two-game NBA playoff slate, but we also have two games where the loser gets to “go fishing” for the rest of the playoffs. It’s the definition of the term “win or go home “. I know that today is Mother’s Day, but if you’re anything like me, you’ll find an excuse to sneak away to catch at least a glimpse of today’s action. As I’ve said many times before, there isn’t a whole lot of “edge” to be had on slates like this, so don’t be foolish and risk too much of your hard-earned bankroll. As far as core players go, I’m currently rolling with Jamal Murray, Kyle Lowry, Kawhi Leonard and Nikola Jokic on Fanduel. “The Joker” is quite expensive, so a pivot to Marc Gasol with open things up a bit. On DraftKings I’m rolling with Murray, Lowry, Leonard and Paul Millsap. Tobias Harris makes for a fine alternative if you’re not happy with Millsap.
– If you’re taking the “studs and scrubs” approach Kawhi Leonard, Nikola Jokic, Joel Embiid and Jimmy Butler have the highest ceilings on the slate (in that order).
– If you’re looking to construct a low owned lineup, here are a few recommendations that will buck the current roster construction trends for this slate:
-Roster Damian Lillard. You would think that Lillard would be a popular choice, however, his salary, the availability of options like Lowry and Murray, and a lack of depth at center will leave him lower owned than expected. Dame doesn’t crack the top four when it comes to ceilings on this slate, but he’s going to need to put Portland on his back if they want to advance in the playoffs.
-Go with a game stack. With two “Game sevens” on the slate, the competitive nature of each game will be through the roof. If you’re using Vegas odds as a determining factor, you could almost flip a coin when choosing a game to stack. Personally, I think the Raptors handle the 76’ers in Toronto so I’ll pick the Trailblazers and Nuggets matchup. This series has been competitive from wire to wire so don’t expect that to change tonight. Do you want a “hot take”? I think Lillard and his buddies sneak into Denver and steal the win.
-Go with a team stack. Besides going with a game stack, this is the best way to get more “bang for your buck” on a two-game slate. Personally, the teams that I’m targeting are theToronto Raptors andDenver Nuggets.
