Check out RadThad’s NBA Cash Game Breakdown for tonight’s 7-game slate!!
What’s up my peeps? This Sunday, we have yet another awesome seven game NBA slate!
I know that I usually bring you the GPP rundown on weekends, however, we’ve decided to switch things up a little. I’ll be bringing you my cash game strategy on the weekends in an attempt to help you build on that hard-earned bankroll of yours.
As you should know by now, cash game strategy is very different from tournament strategy. In cash games, it’s all about value. Well, it’s not just about value, but you know what I mean.
Your cash game roster should be very “fluid” throughout its construction. To paraphrase the immortal Bruce Lee, “It must be like water.”
Late breaking news can, and will, change your cash game core more often than not so the lineups you create right now will likely look very different from the one you submit prior to tip off.
I’ll be sure to post any updates to the article as news breaks (including updated cash game core plays). I’ll also notify y’all of any updates via the Twitter machine.
In the meantime, here are my cash game thoughts for today’s slate:
–Gordon Hayward (CHA) has been downgraded to “doubtful” for tonight’s contest against Sacramento due to a hand injury. As a result, Bismack Biyombo (CHA) replaces Montrezl Harrell (LAL) in my original DraftKings core. Other Charlotte Hornets players like Cody Martin (CHA), Miles Bridges (CHA), Jalen McDaniels (CHA) and PJ Washington (CHA) become viable cash game options on DraftKings (in that order). On FanDuel, Terry Rozier (CHA) replaces Justise Winslow (MEM) as a core play. I still think Winslow is a fine cash game option, he’s just not a core play. LaMelo Ball (CHA) and Bismack Biyombo (CHA) also become fine cash game options on FanDuel.
–Jaylen Brown (BOS) has been ruled out of Sunday’s game against the Washington Wizards due to a knee injury. This news solidifies Jayson Tatum (BOS) as a core play and adds Kemba Walker to the core play on both sites. At this point all of your cash game roster spots are almost full.
–P.J. Tucker (HOU) will be starting at center the Houston Rockets tonight. For the love of God, do not roster Tucker. Instead, strongly consider Jonas Valanciunas (MEM) in tournaments. He’s actually cash game viable on FanDuel as well.
For now, the “cash game secret sauce” consists of a combination of Houston Rockets, Boston Celtics and Charlotte Hornets. Jimmy Butler (MIA) and Tyler Herro (MIA) are both considered “game time decisions” for Sunday’s game against the Atlanta Hawks. If both of these guys sit, you’ll want to find a way to squeeze Bam Adebayo (MIA) in with the aforementioned players.
–Okay, so Jimmy Butler (MIA) has been ruled OUT, while Tyler Herro (MIA) has been ruled IN. I still like Adebayo a lot now. If you can fit him into your cash game lineup, please do so.
Top Stud (over $8K on FD): LeBron James (followed by Russell Westbrook)
Top Stud (over $8K on DK): LeBron James (followed by Russell Westbrook)
Top Value (under $5K on FD): Danuel House (followed by Daniel Theis)
Top Value (under $5K on DK): Justise Winslow (followed by Sterling Brown)
-On FanDuel my most common cash core of players consists of Eric Gordon (HOU), Danuel House (HOU), Justise Winslow (MEM) and De’Aaron Fox (SAC).
-On DraftKings, I’m getting a lot of Gordon, Winslow, John Wall (HOU) and Montrezl Harrell (LAL). You can add Jayson Tatum (BOS) as a bonus core play on both sites, even if +Jaylen Brown (BOS) is in. (If Brown sits, Kemba Walker (BOS) becomes an even better play than he already is.)
– Here are a few things to consider when constructing your cash game lineups for this slate:
-“How many Houston Rockets is too many?” Tonight, the Houston Rockets will be without the services of Christian Wood (HOU) and Victor Oladipo (HOU). DeMarcus Cousins (HOU) is no longer a member of the team so the days of playing him as a “knee-jerk” reaction in cash games are done. That leaves John Wall (HOU), Eric Gordon (HOU) and Danuel House (HOU) as our cash game targets today when the Rockets take on the Memphis Grizzlies. I’m currently rostering two Rockets in cash games on each site, however, I wouldn’t call you “crazy” if you decided to roll with three of them. Sterling Brown (HOU) makes the cut as a viable cash game value option on DraftKings if you’re willing to pull the trigger.
-“How many Atlanta Hawks is too many?” No one is asking themselves this question right now, however, if Trae Young (ATL) sits with a groin/foot injury, everyone will want to have an answer. Young is currently “questionable” for tonight’s game against the Miami Heat, so we will have to play the “waiting game” until further notice. I’m really not interested in any Atlanta players in cash games, at the moment, but if Young sits, the Hawks wall become the top cash game value plays on the slate.
–“ Are the Washington Wizards playing today, and, if so, who are they going up against?” This is a question you need to ask yourself on every NBA DFS slate. The Wizards are a very bad defensive team right now (currently ranked 27th in overall defensive efficiency), so you’ll want to at least consider rostering a few members of their opponent in cash games. Today’s lucky winner is the Boston Celtics. Granted, the Celtics haven’t been playing well either, but they are the better of these two teams and it isn’t relatively close. You’ll want to include someone like Jayson Tatum (BOS) in your core, however, guys like Kemba Walker (BOS) and Daniel Theis (BOS) are also worthy of cash game consideration. (GPP tip: +Jaylen Brown (BOS) is currently listed as a “questionable” due to left knee soreness. If he suits up, you should consider him an excellent low owned, high ceiling option tonight.)
–“Slow your roll” when it comes to cash game beefcake. Like yesterday, today’s slate is littered with beefcake. Unlike yesterday, these guys aren’t making the “priority list” when it comes to cash game roster construction. Sure, I would love to have some combination of LeBron James (LAL), +Trae Young (ATL) and Steph Curry (GSW) as a cash game foundation, but the current value just won’t allow it. The best I can do is squeeze in one stud in the form of Russell Westbrook (WSH) or Karl-Anthony Towns (MIN) on FanDuel. On DraftKings, the highest I can go at the moment is Jayson Tatum (BOS). This is subject to change, depending on how late breaking news plays out, so stay tuned.
-In a nutshell, you’re basically using a number of Houston Rockets value plays, Justise Winslow (MEM) and Boston Celtics beefcake/mid-tier players as the foundation of your cash game roster. This could change, depending on how things turn out with +Trae Young (ATL),so be prepared to pivot.
