QUAKER STATE 400 QUICK FACTS
- Kentucky Speedway
- Sunday 7/12/20 – 2:30 PM
- 1.5-mile Paved Track
- Qualifying – None
- OSS Inspection – 7/12/20, 8 AM
This is a 267 lap event. There is not a lot of track data for Kentucky since there have only been nine Cup races here dating back to 2011. Brad Keselowski has won three, Kyle Busch has won two, Martin Truex Jr. has won the last two of three, and Kurt Busch won last year.
Last Race Notables: Kurt Busch won.
- Laps Led – Kyle Busch: 72, Daniel Suárez: 52, Kurt Busch: 41, Clint Bowyer: 40, Ricky Stenhouse Jr.: 21, Joey Logano: 19, Ryan Newman: 15
- Start/Finish – Erik Jones 21/3, Denny Hamlin 18/5, Ryan Newman 35/9, Chris Buescher 25/10
Remember, the number of laps sway the importance of scoring in different directions. Fewer laps = fewer laps led points and less fastest lap points, making place finish and place differential points a bit more valuable. Yes, you will still need the dominator, but there is less likely of a chance to have two or three of them and really separate them from the pack.
Tensions flared at Friday night’s Xfinity race 👀 😲
NASCAR DFS PROCESS
Let me give you guys a better idea of what we are doing here for NASCAR. We put out an early article with some track stats and what drivers to target, based on the numbers. Then we put out the final DFS picks article (which you’re reading) with drivers who seem to be fast or have good or bad starting positions. I put out a total of 12 drivers I like and a few who I am off. The guys I am off are typically guys who don’t run that well here and are starting in a decent position.
I am trying to narrow things down for you. Too much information can just be confusing. If you need more information, you can look at the projections tab and my cheat sheet. Take a look at the scoring to better understand why I do it this way.
Point Scoring
DK Scoring
Drivers will accumulate points as follows:
- Place Differential = +/- 1 PTs (Where they start vs. where they finish….Start 20th, Finish 10th = 10 pts)
- Fastest Laps = +0.5 PTs
- Laps Led = +0.25 PTs
- Finishing Position Scoring (Winner 46 pts, 2nd 42 pts, 3rd 41, 4th 40, 39, 38, 37, etc…)
FD Scoring
Drivers will accumulate points as follows:
- .1pts for each lap completed
- Place Differential = +/- .5 PTs (Where they start vs. where they finish….Start 20th, Finish 10th = 5 pts)
- Fastest Laps = +0.5 PTs
- Laps Led = +0.1 PTs
- Finishing Position Scoring (Winner 43 pts, 2nd 40 pts, 3rd 38, 4th 37, 36, 35, 34, etc…)
Track Stats
Let’s take a look at some of the track stats.

QUAKER STATE 400 DFS PICKS
Top Tier
Kyle Busch ($11,500) – Starting 1st. Eight top 10’s, seven top 5’s and two wins here. Tread lightly, as Kyle is in a bit of a tough streak for his standards. I can’t help but have him up top here, as he starts up front and could be there all day.
Kevin Harvick ($10,600) – Starting 5th. One of the best. Has never won here, but has been very solid. Six top 10’s, one top 5. Got a first-time win earlier in the year; can he make it two?
Chase Elliott ($10,500) – Starting 8th. Having a pretty good year. Fast all the time. Has run well here with a top 5 in one of his four races here at Kentucky.
Joey Logano ($9,600) – Starting 2nd. Logano has six top 10’s, two top 5’s here at Kentucky. Starting up front, could lead some laps. Track position will be important Sunday.
Mid-Tier
Martin Truex Jr. ($9,200) – Starting 9th. Mid-tier guys are at a discount. Jump on board. Five top 10’s, two top 5’s and two wins here at Kentucky. Truex has won two of the last three here.
Brad Keselowski ($9,000) – Starting 6th. Six top 10’s, four top 5’s and three wins here at Kentucky. Steal at $9,000.
Kurt Busch ($9,300) – Starting 4th. Six top 10’s, two top 5’s and a win here last year.
Matt Kenseth ($8,000) – Starting 17th. Seems like a vet track, and Kenseth fits that mold. Six top 10’s, three top 5’s and a win here. Finished 2nd last week and will look to continue the momentum Sunday.
Sleepers
Aric Almirola ($7,300) – Starting 4th. Almirola is just running hot…..3rd, 5th, 3rd, 3rd and 5th in his last five races. He only has one top 10 here. He gets his second on Sunday.
Cole Custer ($6,900) – Starting 29th. Some risk here as a rook, but love the starting position and talent.
Daniel Suárez ($6,400) – Starting 37th. 8th, 15th and 18th in his only three here. Starting position should make him a safe play. Yes, a team downgrade, but he should have a respectable run on Sunday.
Ryan Preece ($6,300) – Starting 32nd. Finished 21st last year. Lot’s of upside with price and starting position.
