Remember, the number of laps sway the importance of scoring in different directions. Fewer laps = fewer laps led points and less fastest lap points, making place finish and place differential points a bit more valuable. Yes, you will still need the dominator, but there is less likely of a chance to have two or three of them and really separate them from the pack. I expect there to be two or three guys to get some significant laps led points this weekend.
NASCAR DFS PROCESS
Let me give you guys a better idea of what we are doing here for NASCAR. We put out an early article with some track stats and what drivers to target, based on the numbers. Then we put out the final DFS picks article (which you’re reading) with drivers who seem to be fast or have good or bad starting positions. I put out a total of 12 drivers I like and a few who I am off. The guys I am off are typically guys who don’t run that well here and are starting in a decent position.
I am trying to narrow things down for you. Too much information can just be confusing. If you need more information, you can look at the projections tab and my cheat sheet. Take a look at the scoring to better understand why I do it this way.
Point Scoring
DK Scoring
Drivers will accumulate points as follows:
- Place Differential = +/- 1 PTs (Where they start vs. where they finish….Start 20th, Finish 10th = 10 pts)
- Fastest Laps = +0.5 PTs
- Laps Led = +0.25 PTs
- Finishing Position Scoring (Winner 46 pts, 2nd 42 pts, 3rd 41, 4th 40, 39, 38, 37, etc…)
FD Scoring
Drivers will accumulate points as follows:
- .1pts for each lap completed
- Place Differential = +/- .5 PTs (Where they start vs. where they finish….Start 20th, Finish 10th = 5 pts)
- Fastest Laps = +0.5 PTs
- Laps Led = +0.1 PTs
- Finishing Position Scoring (Winner 43 pts, 2nd 40 pts, 3rd 38, 4th 37, 36, 35, 34, etc…)
Track Stats
Let’s take a look at some of the track stats.

POCONO 350 DFS PICKS
Top Tier
Denny Hamlin ($10,200) – Starting 19th. Beast here; 2nd yesterday. Should have a chance to win today. 19 top 10’s, 12 top 5’s and five wins here.
Kyle Busch ($11,000) – Starting 16th. With yesterday serving as a practice, I expect Kyle to be even better today. 16 top 10’s, nine top 5’s and three wins at Pocono. He finished 5th yesterday.
Kevin Harvick ($10,700) – Starting 20th. Check these recent finishes out: 1st, 6th, 22nd, 4th, 4th, 2nd, 2nd, 4th, 9th, 42nd, 2nd, 2nd. Don’t like him to win (he could). Tough to win two in a row, back-to-back days, but I do see another solid run.
Martin Truex Jr. ($9,800) – Starting 15th. Team Gibbs – I expect them all to be fast. The team just always makes the right adjustments and makes their cars fast. Truex has 12 top 10’s, six top 5’s and two wins here. He finished 6th yesterday.
Mid-Tier
Joey Logano ($9,400) – Starting 36th. Good team, good driver starting in the back. Logano should be chalky and for good reason. Eight top 10’s, four top 5’s and a win here.
Tyler Reddick ($7,600) – Starting 30th. Running well yesterday and tangled with Jones. Starting position and price. Lock him in. I like it!
Alex Bowman ($8,500) – Starting 27th. Had some speed yesterday. Has had speed all year. Unlucky late in the race. Lots of upside starting 27th.
William Byron ($8,600) – Starting 7th. In five races, he has three top 10’s and one top 5. Finished 14th yesterday. Starting up front and will need to maintain track position to finish there.
Sleepers
Erik Jones ($7,100) – Starting 38th. Good chalk. Just lock him in.
Aric Almirola ($7,200) – Starting 18th. Catching fire. Last three races are all top 5’s. Finishing 3rd yesterday. Running with the hot hand here.
Chris Buescher ($6,400) – Starting 11th. Finally, Buescher is starting to pay off. 10th, 6th in his last two races. Like the price and like another good run today.
Ryan Newman ($6,300) – Starting 6th. Led some laps yesterday and ran pretty well. Gonna need some more out of him today, but a top 10 isn’t unthinkable for a guy who has 15 top 10’s, nine top 5’s and a win here.
