O’REILLY AUTO PARTS 500 QUICK FACTS
- Texas Motor Speedway
- Sunday 7/19/20 – 3:00 PM
- 1.5-mile Paved Track
- Qualifying – None
- OSS Inspection – 7/19/20, 8:30 AM
Texas. This is a 334 lap event.
Last Race Notables: Kevin Harvick won.
- Laps Led – Harvick: 119, Aric Almirola: 62, Jimmie Johnson: 40, Clint Bowyer: 36, Daniel Suárez: 25, Kyle Busch: 18, Alex Bowman: 11
- Start/Finish – Joey Logano 11/4, Martin Truex 17/6, Bowyer 24/11, Austin Dillon 21/13, Ryan Newman 25/15
Remember, the number of laps sway the importance of scoring in different directions. Fewer laps = fewer laps led points and fewer fastest lap points, making place finish and place differential points a bit more valuable. Yes, you will still need the dominator, but there is less likely of a chance to have two or three of them and really separate them from the pack. I expect there to be two or three guys who get some significant laps led points this weekend.
NASCAR DFS PROCESS
Let me give you guys a better idea of what we are doing here for NASCAR. We put out an early article with some track stats and what drivers to target, based on the numbers. Then we put out the final DFS picks article (which you’re reading) with drivers who seem to be fast or have good or bad starting positions. I put out a total of 12 drivers I like and a few who I am off. The guys I am off are typically guys who don’t run that well here and are starting in a decent position.
I am trying to narrow things down for you. Too much information can just be confusing. If you need more information, you can look at the projections tab and my cheat sheet. Take a look at the scoring to better understand why I do it this way.
Point Scoring
DK Scoring
Drivers will accumulate points as follows:
- Place Differential = +/- 1 PTs (Where they start vs. where they finish….Start 20th, Finish 10th = 10 pts)
- Fastest Laps = +0.5 PTs
- Laps Led = +0.25 PTs
- Finishing Position Scoring (Winner 46 pts, 2nd 42 pts, 3rd 41, 4th 40, 39, 38, 37, etc…)
FD Scoring
Drivers will accumulate points as follows:
- .1pts for each lap completed
- Place Differential = +/- .5 PTs (Where they start vs. where they finish….Start 20th, Finish 10th = 5 pts)
- Fastest Laps = +0.5 PTs
- Laps Led = +0.1 PTs
- Finishing Position Scoring (Winner 43 pts, 2nd 40 pts, 3rd 38, 4th 37, 36, 35, 34, etc…)
Track Stats
Let’s take a look at some of the track stats.

O’REILLY AUTO PARTS 500 DFS PICKS
Top Tier
Kevin Harvick ($11,300) – Starting 5th. 22 top 10’s, 11 top 5’s and three wins here. Harvick has won three of the last five here at Texas.
Denny Hamlin ($10,800) – Starting 7th. 13 top 10’s, seven top 5’s and three wins here at Texas. Won here last year.
Chase Elliott ($10,000) – Starting 8th. Five top 10’s, two top 5’s. Chase has been fast all year. Coming off a million-dollar win at the All-Star Race.
Joey Logano ($9,500) – Starting 9th. 12 top 10’s, 10 top 5’s and a win here in Texas. His last eight here at Texas Motor Speedway: 4th, 17th, 3rd, 6th, 7th, 3rd, 2nd, 3rd.
Mid-Tier
Ryan Blaney ($8,900) – Starting 2nd. His last five here are 8th, 37th, 2nd, 5th and 6th. Having a solid year and showing speed week after week. Blaney is looking to get back on his hot streak from a few weeks back.
Aric Almirola ($8,100) – Starting 1st. Really consistent of late and his price has finally come up. His last three at Texas are 2nd, 7th and 8th.
Chris Bell ($9,100) – Starting 33rd. His price has finally fallen a bit so I can recommend Bell. Starting towards the back. Should be a safe bet to have a decent finish and a bunch of place differential points.
Jimmie Johnson ($9,000) – Starting 20th. Insane resume and that included here at Texas. 22 top 10’s, 16 top 5’s and seven wins. This could be the week for JJ, who has been fast all year. He needs a bit of luck and to finish this one off.
Sleepers
Austin Dillon ($6,900) – Starting 21st. 13th, 14th and 10th in his last three here at Texas. Solid finishes in the teens during the last few weeks. I would expect the same this weekend.
Daniel Suárez ($6,400) – Starting 37th. Starting position play as usual for Suárez, who ran Texas pretty well on a good team. With the team downgrade, don’t expect the world, but a 20th finish or so would do.
Michael McDowell ($6,600) – Starting 34th. See Suárez. Very similar here.
Chris Buescher ($5,800) – Starting 16th. Back on the Buescher train here this weekend. He had two top 10’s a few weeks ago, and I am looking for some of that this weekend. First time at Texas with his new team and I expect a good run.
