Only single game Showdown slates for the remainder of the NHL DFS season. We’ve got your backs, though, with a daily breakdown of all the top plays and lineup building strategy.
First of all, I want to revisit Strategy Session #21 – DraftKings Showdown Rules.
I’ve gone back and updated all of my rules. Only one was nixed, so six remain:
Rule #1 – No defensemen at CAPT (87.7% of optimals)
Rule #2 – Use a max of 1 goalie (86.2% of optimals)
Rule #3 – Set a minimum salary of $43,000 (86.2% of optimals)
Rule #4 – Remove third and fourth line forwards from CAPT pool (84.4% of optimals)
Rule #5 – Do not use any full-line stacks (95.4% of optimals)
Rule #6 – Use a max of 2 players from opposing team when using a goalie CAPT, and max 3 players from opposing team when using a UTIL goalie. (~92.8% of optimals)
Now on to today’s game!
New York Islanders @ Tampa Bay Lightning, Game One
- 8:00 pm EST
- Implied Odds: Tampa Bay 55% | Total: 5.0
Expect to see the line of Blake Coleman/Yanni Gourde/Barclay Goodrow out on the ice against the Barzal line tonight. The Tampa trio did a great job of shutting down Boston’s top line at even strength, so I’m not sure I want to invest a whole lot into NYI1 lineups tonight.
TB1 will be the chalk tonight, and rightfully so. I have Brayden Point and Nikita Kucherov both projected for over a point tonight…the only two players on the slate. We don’t want to full stack lines, so Point and Kucherov rank as my top mini-stack.
On the Isles side, the Brock Nelson/Anthony Beauvillier/Josh Bailey line has been crushing lately. I like any pair from that group as a good starting point for a more contrarian approach tonight.
Jean-Gabriel Pageau and Derick Brassard is the other mini-stack I’ll have exposure to here.
I will make a rare exception to the “no defense CAPT” rule for Victor Hedman. I won’t have a ton of Captain exposure with #77, but he has enough upside to take a couple of shots if playing 20 or more lineups.
Ryan Pulock is my favorite Isles defender to target. He’s been a peripheral machine of late; I have him projected for over 5 SOG+BS tonight. Scott Mayfield and Adam Pelech are a couple of the cheaper options I like, mainly for their shot blocking prowess.
I will have one of these goalies in just about every lineup I make tonight, with lots of CAPT exposure from both guys.
I am expecting there to be some dead lineups tonight thanks to the uncertainty surrounding the Islanders goalies. Many think Greiss will start, others think Varlamov will go. People will either build without a goalie to avoid the situation, or they’ll plug in one and not check for the pre-game announcement. We’ll have huge leverage with the Islanders goalie…just be sure to make sure you check to see who is starting!
