Welcome to the NFL DFS DST Coach, where we identify the best defenses for our DraftKings and FanDuel lineups!
What’s up y’all? It’s Week 5 of this year’s NFL regular season. If you’re new to daily fantasy, you’ll soon realize defensive production is hard to predict on a week-to-week basis. Your best option is to come up with a process you follow week in and week out. In the long run, you’ll come out on top. Let’s take a look at the team defenses that make this week’s “wish list.” Here’s a list of the “boxes” you’re looking to “check off”:
Kansas City -11
San Francisco -9
Worst Offense Ranking from PFF.com (prior to Week 5)
New York Jets – 32
New York Giants – 31
Philadelphia Eagles – 30
Washington Football Team – 29
Denver Broncos – 28
Chicago Bears – 27
Los Angeles Chargers – 26
Pittsburgh Steelers – 25
Opponent Implied Total less than 20.0
New York Jets 19.5
BEST NFL DFS DEFENSES
Arizona Cardinals (DK $4,200, FD $4,200) “Defenses against the Jets”
At this point, the Jets are offensively the worst team in the NFL. Starter Sam Darnold is listed OUT, and the ELITE Joe Flacco will be under center. They average less than 17 points a game. The Cardinals’ defense isn’t all that impressive, but the Jets just make D/ST better with their mistakes and lack of offense. No other team has allowed more points to fantasy defenses than the New York Jets.
Pittsburgh Steelers (DK $3,800, FD $4,400)
The heavily injured Eagles OL has allowed Caron Wentz to land on his back 14 times this season. The Steelers are coming off an unexpected bye week and should be primed back at home against the Eagles.
Los Angeles Rams (DK $4,000, FD $5,000)
The Rams get a second week of facing a new starter; Kyle Allen is starting for the Washington Football Team. In the last two weeks, the defense has had nine sacks and last week held the Giants to less than nine points. Allen had 15 interceptions last season as a starter. The price is steep.
Baltimore Ravens (DK $3,900, FD $4,900)
The rookie QB Joe Burrow will face the Ravens on the road for the first time in his career. He has been sacked 15 times in four games. Joe Mixon woke up last week, but the Ravens have a top-5 run defense, so the pressure will be on Burrow to keep the game competitive.
