Welcome to the NFL DFS DST Coach, where we identify the best defenses for our DraftKings and FanDuel lineups!
What’s up y’all? It’s Week 1 of this year’s NFL regular season. If you’re new to daily fantasy, you’ll soon realize defensive production is hard to predict on a week-to-week basis. Your best option is to come up with a process you follow week in and week out. In the long run, you’ll come out on top. Let’s take a look at the team defenses that make this week’s “wish list.” Here’s a list of the “boxes” you’re looking to “check off”:
San Francisco -7
New England -6.5
New Orleans -3.5

BEST NFL DFS DEFENSES
New England Patriots (DK $3,200, FD $4,600): The Pats were a force last season in DFS. They scored over three fantasy points per game more than the next best defense. This season, they lost a few pieces, but that’s never stopped the Patriots before. The next man up steps up for the Pats. The starter for Week 1 is Ryan Fitzpatrick. Last season, the Pats defense had 4 INTs, seven sacks and 2 TDs against Miami Week 1. The same matchup and reduced soft pricing make this defense #1 overall.
Buffalo Bills (DK $3,700, FD $4,700): The Bills come in as a pivot off the ownership in a matchup against the Jets. They have almost all the checkmarks for what we are looking for in DFS. The Jets have a 16.5 implied total, 27th ranks OL and a turnover-prone QB. The defense is ranked #1 for most seasonal leagues, and in daily fantasy, they should be an option each week.
Philadelphia Eagles (DK $3,600, FD $4,500): The Eagles are heading to face the Washington Football Team. Last season, the Eagles ranked 10th in total defense. They added CBs Darius Slay and Nickell Robey-Coleman to improve their pass defense. The WFT is starting a rookie running back, a 2nd year QB who’s learning a new offense, and have the worst-ranked OL based off PFF 2020 rankings. They are also one of four teams with an implied total less than 18. The Eagles are a great GPP option with plenty of upside.
Baltimore Ravens (DK $3,100, FD $4,800): Based on pricing, I’d imagine the Ravens will be more popular on DK Sunday. The matchup against the Browns comes with some turnover opportunities. Baker Mayfield had 27 turnovers last season, so there will be plenty of chances to take advantage of that. They are also the highest home favorite on the slate at minus 8.
New Orlean Saints (DK $2,400, FD $4,100)
Detroit Lions (DK $2,700, FD $3,700)
San Francisco 49ers (DK $3,500, FD $5,000)
Indianapolis Colts (DK $3,000, FD $3,700)
