What’s up Mafia? I hope this article finds everyone safe, happy and most importantly, at home. Another week without the NBA has gone by and, to be quite honest, it seems like it’s been another month. While there’s still hope that league play resumes at some point, there is no definitive timetable as to when this could happen. I’ve heard all sorts of ideas as to how the league could salvage the season, but for now, the only thing we can do is wait. If there’s a chance for the league to come back, I’ll have NBA DFS on the brain. To keep everyone preoccupied, I came up with a list of pre-pandemic superlatives (i.e., most likely to succeed, etc.). The winners of these awards are my own personal selections; however, I would love to hear some of yours.
NBA Pre-Pandemic Superlatives (Forwards)
Most likely to end up in my cash game lineup:
Giannis Antetokounmpo (MIL): The Greek Freak has hit 5x plus 32 times this season in DraftKings’ scoring format. The reigning MVP should continue with his 37% usage for the rest of the season. As I mentioned, the real issue is how will they complete this season. The matchups and possibility of rest are factors of concern. Regardless, Giannis should be a core Cash play on nearly every slate.
Most likely to end up in my tournament lineup:
Tobias Harris (PHI): With Ben Simmons off the court, Harris has been a key player for the Sixers since the ASB. He just hasn’t been consistent and that’s what a GPP player does for you. Over the last 12 games, he topped 5x-8.3x in 6 games and failed to hit 3.8 in the rest of them. On a site like FanDuel, most will overlook him and pay up elsewhere. He was 28% owned on DK on a 4 gamer on 3/5/20. He hit 7.1x.
Most likely to make me regret not rostering him:
Zion Williamson (NOP): Williamson’s season was starting to show why he was the #1 pick and an early favorite for ROY. Since returning from injury, he has had 13 games over 5x his price and his salary has started to plateau. He is also cleared to play more than 30 minutes. I am a firm believer that the NBA brass want Zion to win the ROY. Conspiracies aside, Zion should remain a solid CASH option when the season picks back up.
Most likely to excel once league play resumes:
Lebron James (LAL): James has been on a mission this year and with the death of Kobe even more so now trying to bring a Finals to win back to Los Angeles. Since the ASB, he has one game less than 5X and has constantly been hitting over 6x during that span. More impressive, he is playing over 35 minutes a game and seeing over 32% usage at his age. If the season picks up, no player in the NBA will be more fired up to be back on the court than LeBron. It’s Taco Tuesday!
Most likely to disappoint once league play resumes:
Andrew Wiggins (GSW): Wiggins has been a sore spot for most over the years. Now he’s in a place with potentially Steph Curry and Draymond Green back at full health, when the league starts back up. Not good. The sites have pushed his price over $7000 and at that price, he’s sure to disappoint.
NBA All COVID-19 Team (Forwards)
Kevin Durant (BKN): Durant and his teammates have been cleared of the virus
Christian Wood (DET): Wood’s agent stated that Wood has been cleared of the virus.
