Key Injury News to Watch:
New Orleans Pelicans – Lonzo Ball is questionable and since he’s rumored to be out there it’s hard to imagine he plays unless he’s 100%. Should he sit that gives a boost to Eric Bledsoe (although he has his own trade deadline issues), Kira Lewis Jr., and Alexander-Walker.
Brooklyn Nets – James Harden is a game-time decision with a neck injury. I’ve projected him as if he’s going to play but if he sits it turns into a bench game with Tyler Johnson, Jeff Green and Nicholas Claxton becoming even better options.
New York Knicks – Payton is questionable, should he miss it’s a bump to Quickley in what is a nice pace-up game for him.
Key Game:
Brooklyn Nets @ Portland Trailblazers – This is the key game for a lot of reasons. Are people going to wait til the last game of the night to wait on James Harden news? What’s the pivot if he sits on Fanduel? Andrew Wiggins? That game theory is certainly interesting and then what do you do with all the value that would emerge if he sits? Do you leave roster spots and play them anyways if Harden is in? The game theory on this slate given the uncertain status of Harden is intriguing and makes it a key game and that’s before we even get to the players.
This is the fastest game on the slate and Harden should have no issue attacking the paint at will vs Kanter. With no Kyrie or Durant, which role guys step up for Brooklyn will be interesting and will help determine who wins tournaments. Tyler Johnson, Bruce Brown, Jeff Green and Nicolas Claxton are just a few of the names that could win tournaments. On the Portland side, their role players are free on Draftkings so getting a Robert Covington and/or Derrick Jones Jr. is another way to save money in this shoot-out game.
Slate Edges: Play 3-4 guys from BRK/POR, lock in Harden and hope he plays, and fade Draymond Green chalk.
