What’s up, #EliteMafia!? Welcome to “The Early Bird,” where we’ll cover the pitchers, stacks, and one-off players you’ll need to dominate today’s early MLB DFS slates on DraftKings and FanDuel!
Today, this article will focus exclusively on the DraftKings/FanDuel “Early Slate” starting at 1:05 PM EST. Just a tiny three-game slate on FanDuel starting then, and they made a second early slate starting at 4:05 PM EST. DraftKings decided to combine all six games. There shouldn’t be many weather concerns throughout the slates.
MLB DFS Pitchers
(FD EARLY / DK EARLY) Tyler Glasnow, RHP, Tampa Bay ($10,000 DK / $11,500 FD)
Glasnow faced this A’s lineup on 4/28 and had a solid 10 Ks with the win and a QS. Today, with this game being on two different slates, you can go with Glasnow on the 4:05pm FD slate, but you will have to choose between him and Max on DK. Glasnow has the better matchup and is a tad cheaper. He holds a 31% K rate against this A’s roster and just over .300 xwOBA.
(FD VERY EARLY / DK EARLY) Max Scherzer, RHP, Nationals ($10,300 DK / $12,000 FD)
New baby narrative in play here for those who believe in that type of thing. Scherzer will take on a Yankees lineup that has started to heat up, especially Stanton. Stanton has taken him deep three times, and I wouldn’t be shocked that the fourth will happen today. Outside of Stanton, he still holds a lofty 37.5% K rate against this Yankee roster. Max will get you double-digit Ks and allow two homers. I prefer him on DK rather than that FanDuel salary.
(FD VERY EARLY / DK EARLY) Carlos Martinez, RHP, Cardinals ($6,900 DK / $8,200 FD)
The price on Martinez puts him in play if you are going with a fade on Max on the FanDuel slate. He is very much an SP2 on DK. He is coming off two solid 7-inning plus outings, and there is hope of another great start. He has a 30% K rate with a .202 xwOBA against this Rockies lineup. The weather is a concern with this game. However, at this point, it should just be a delay.
Other SP2 Options:
Corey Kluber, RHP, Yankees ($8,700 DK / $8,500 FD)
Trevor Wiliams, RHP, Cubs ($6,300 DK / $6,700 FD)
Jose Urena, RHP, Tigers ($5,800 DK / $7,800 FD)
MLB DFS Stacks
- Cardinals: They have the highest implied run total against Chi Chi Gonzalez, who has allowed 7 ER combined his last two outings. Stack around DeJong, Goldy and Nolan, in that order. Bader and O’Neill to save.
- Cubs: The Cubs face Wil Crowe, who has yet to make it past five innings in any start. He is allowing a 46% HC% with a 19% BB rate. 1-7 are in play. Joc Pederson is primed to homer in this one, and he’s my favorite one-off.
- Twins: I have Urena as a cheap GPP option, and that is mostly a hedge option against the Twins. With that said, the Twins bats of Max Kepler, Cruz and Polanco are my favorite options for stacking around.
- MINI STACK Yankees: Yes, you can use Max and the Yankees. I mentioned, Stanton should take him deep again, but cheap LHHs like Mike Ford can be used to save and have homer upside play.
Value plays listed last.
C: Contreras, Garver, Higashioka, Avila
1B: Goldy, Belt, Sano, Ford
2B: DJ, Polanco, Gordon
3B: Arenado, Bryant, Evans
SS: DeJong, Baez, Tatis
OF (HIGH $$$): Cruz, Stanton, Soto
OF (MID $$$): Grisham, Blackmon, Kepler
OF (LOW $$$): Pederson, O’Neill, Bader
Best of luck!
