What’s up, #EliteMafia! Welcome to “The Early Bird,” where we’ll cover the pitchers, stacks, and one-off players you’ll need to dominate today’s early MLB DFS slates on DraftKings and FanDuel!
Today, this article will focus exclusively on the DraftKings/FanDuel “Early Slate” starting at 12:35 PM EST. Just a tiny four-game slate on FanDuel and DraftKings. High winds again in Wrigley, blowing out at 12 MPH to left field. All games are being played in 80-degree weather if Texas opens the roof.
MLB DFS Pitchers
Tyler Mahle, RHP, Reds ($9,200 DK / $9,900 FD)
Pitching on this small slate is not exactly promising. Mahle is one of the top options. He has the highest K/9 at 10.8 and has had at least 5 Ks in every start but one. Against the Giants roster, he has a 28% K rate. The ballpark is a concern; he has allowed 2.40 HR/9, however, his K% jumps to 33%. You have to take the good with the bad here.
Domingo German, RHP, Yankees ($8,000 DK / $9,000 FD)
Being out of Yankee Stadium should help German keep the ball in the park. He has just a 0.78 HR/9 compared to a whopping 3.14 HR/9. He has at least 6 Ks in the last five games and facing the Rangers, he has a great chance to have 6 Ks or more today.
Rich Hill, LHP, Rays ($8,700 DK / $9,300 FD)
Trevor Williams, RHP, Cubs ($6,100 MME GPP FD ONLY)
MLB DFS Stacks
- Rays: Another hot day in Baltimore, and the Rays have a five-run implied total. Kremer has allowed at least three runs in each of his outings but two in six starts and allows over .200 ISO against both sides of the plate. Brandon Lowe and Austin Meadows are where to start.
- Giants/Reds: Game stack #1. If you don’t go with Mahle, which I think most will, this game is a great leverage option against that ownership. The ballpark allows for plenty of runs, and in 80-degree humid weather, the ball should fly. Mike Yastrzemski, Nick Castellanos, and Eugenio Suarez each (or all) are great building blocks.
- Cubs/Nationals: Game stack #2, winds blowing out to LF at 12 MPH. Ross (2.06 HR/9) and Williams (4.15 HR/9 in May) are homer prone. Schwarber has the BVP in the Williams matchup, and Ian Happ and Joc Pederson have the best matchup for the Cubs. At minimum, two of those three should be in your stack if you go this route.
