Bullpens pitch 40% of all Major League innings and are often forgotten about by people when making lineup decisions. Here at elitefantasy, we’re committed to providing 100% analysis of pitching, not just the 60% you’ll find elsewhere!
FanGraphs relievers stats over the last seven days:
We have picked on the Pirates bullpen all season long, but if you just look at their ERA you may think they are pitching well. They are allowing a low hard hit percentage of 23.2 percent over the last week and opponents are only batting .156 which are the positives. However, despite their low 0.78 ERA, they still have a high xFIP of 4.29 over the last seven days. Left-handed hitters are slugging .516 in the month of June, which is the fourth highest in baseball. Finally, they have a left on base percentage of 91.3 percent which we know will regress.
The Phillies bullpen allowed three earned runs their double header against the Nationals and continue to struggle against right-handers in the month of June. Righties are slugging .726 this month. To put this in perspective, the Orioles who can’t get anyone out rank second at .600.
The Blue Jays bullpen continues to struggle as they worked five and a third innings on Wednesday night and allowed three earned runs and eight base runners. Over the last seven days, they have allowed nine home runs.
