Brian Healy gives his best tips for successfully cashing in KBO DFS!
As the MLB owners and players union continue to be miles apart on negotiations, we are left staying up late/waking up early to play KBO DFS. We are through just over five weeks, and the play/coverage has been great. While we don’t see as many strikeouts or home runs, it has been a fantastic product to enjoy while we wait for MLB return.
From a DFS perspective, we essentially play it the same way we do MLB: stacking is critical when building lineups, and sacrificing a bat in order to get one of the few top starting pitchers is still most optimal. Given that runs are primarily scored through base hits, keeping maximization of your stack and keeping your string of players tight is critical in the KBO. Therefore, on DraftKings, utilizing a five-man stack is ideal, while settling for a four-man will still suffice. On FanDuel, you certainly want to run a 4/4 or a 4/3/1.
From a roster construction perspective, it’s more important in KBO to keep your stack of players tighter (fewer holes) since the majority of runs come from base hits. For the most part, the bottom portion of each team’s lineup has been below average so it is certainly preferred to stack the top portion of a lineup.
Given the lack of overall power/HR’s in the league, it is critical that you include a team’s power hitter(s) in your stacks to maximize the upside. When building a roster with a one-off (single player from a team), you certainly want to avoid any low upside player unless you are purely punting off the catcher position on DK. I always look for a high upside power hitter to utilize as my one-off with the hope they do all of their team’s damage offensively, killing the overall team stack while allowing you to capture all of their production in a single play.
With each KBO slate primarily being five games, you should look to continue to stack your rosters on a nightly basis. If we do get shorter slates in the future (2-3 games) due to schedule or weather, my stance on double stacking does loosen. Keep that in mind if you do encounter any shorter slates in the near future.
