Favorable Pitching Matchups
P KIA Ki Young Im DraftKings $5,900 / FanDuel $21 – The Lotte Giants have been struggling as of late. Over their last two, they have a total of nine hits resulting in two runs. Also, the Giants have struck out 15 times to opposing starters over this two-game span, nine times against Gagon last night and six times against Kia’s Min Woo Lee. Both pitchers were in their nights’ GPP winning lineups, Gagon at 17.5% and Lee at 3.3%.
Now, it’s Ki Young Im’s turn to face the struggling Lotte Giants, who are currently on a three-game losing streak. This is the ultimate GPP play, as you’ll notice Im is at minimum price and is technically a relief pitcher. With that said, if he can stay in the game, strikeouts are his forte. Ki Young Im currently has 10 strikeouts over just 8.0 innings of work. That’s solid strikeout production! It’s his control I am worried about. Walks, hit batters and lengthy innings are Im’s main issues, and against a struggling team in the Lotte Giants, this becomes the perfect situation for GPP scenarios. As always, hedge your exposure by investing in minimal shares of a Lotte Giants stack but with a strikeout pitcher on the mound and a Lotte Giants team that has dropped to a .270 team BA with 95 team strikeouts!
P KIW Hyun Hee Han DraftKings $7,700 / FanDuel $24 – The SK Wyverns and the NC Dinos currently lead the league in strikeouts with 104 each. SK owns a league-low .220 team batting average to pair with their league-leading strikeouts numbers. Not to mention, they have only 10 home runs on the year, which is tied for second-lowest in the KBO.
Hyun Hee Han gets the favorable matchup for the Kiwoom Heroes with a salary bump. It’s always nice to get confirmation with a salary increase. Makes me think DraftKings has the same idea as me, and an RP at $7,700 is high. I am confident AF, as the kids would say. Hyun Hee Han could be a low owned, GPP gem tonight against the league’s worst offensive team in the SK Wyverns. The Wyverns are 1-6 on the road. Han is a lock for me tonight at a salary of $7,700 on DraftKings and $24 on FanDuel.
Other Pitching Options: DOO Hui Kwan Yu DK $9,300 / FD $22
The KT Wiz currently own a .333 team batting average (league leaders) with 16 home runs (ranked 3rd). Currently on a five-game winning streak, the Wiz are now 5-3 at home. Tonight, KTW are favored by -152 with a 9.5 under/over. Looks promising, let’s take a look at Hanwha Eagles starter, Ee Whan Kim.
Kim owns a 1.64 ERA and has put in two solid games thus far, totaling 11.0 innings while only allowing nine hits and two earned runs. So, why stack KT? It’s regression day, baby! The Eagles are on a two-game losing streak. They only scored one run in their last game (last night) after losing a heartbreaker to KT, which included a nine-run 7th inning, getting them back into the game Tuesday morning EST.
Hanwha’s Ee Whan Kim owned a 4.26 ERA in 2019, earning him a 4-3 record. The long ball was not a problem for him, as he only allowed two home runs all year and has yet to allow one this year, but he has been known to allow a high volume of hits, walks, and most importantly, runs. In 2019, in only eight game starts (35 ⅔ innings pitched), he allowed 18 earned runs off 42 hits. Also, for those doing the math, 35 ⅔ innings divided by eight game starts is only 4.375 innings on average per game – 18 earned runs divided by 35 ⅔ innings is roughly .51 runs per inning, which is nothing special but not great either. His strikeout numbers are low, and his pitches are average across the board.
Okay, here’s the kicker. Ee Whan Kim has yet to face the KT Wiz as a starter. Last season, he faced them as a relief pitcher only, and we are now two games into his sophomore season. All of this leads me to think regression, regression, regression. Kim has his weaknesses, and this KT Wiz team is thriving right now. I do see Kim’s numbers coming back to earth, and based on his $6,700 salary on DraftKings, I’d say the algos agree.
So, who do I like on the KT Wiz? Phew, thought you’d never ask! I like these lefties. KT’s 2,3,4 batters are all contact hitting lefties who are very capable of starting things off on the right foot tonight. These lefties include: M. Kim OF, Y. Jo OF, B. Kang 1B. What a better way to top things off than with M. Rojas Jr. in the number five slot (most likely). This four-man stack is my favorite stack of the night – Low owned, high upside, favorable matchup, five-game win streak. This has regression written all over it for SP Ee Whan Kim. I expect the KT Wiz to win, and win big.
Other stack(s): LG Twins: OF C. Lee, OF H. Kim, OF E. Chae, 1B R. Ramos
