Jesse brings together everything discussed on the Friday livestream, and Mans’ Saturday chat, in one easy-to-reference sheet!
Okay, guys: It’s Week 1.
I know we’re all excited.
I know many of you just want to get on with it.
It’s the first week of a new season, you’ve been preparing for months, and as of right now anything is possible, but only one thing is certain:
You’re going to be a millionaire by tomorrow night.
… … …
…I’m sorry, it just isn’t going to happen.
I know it’s hard to resist the urge to max enter everything in sight, but you probably should. You may feel like you’re as prepared as you could possibly be, but remember:
We know less going into Week 1 than we do any other week of the season. Next week, we’ll know everything we know now, PLUS we’ll have one game’s worth of data. In Week 3, we’ll know even more, and so on.
Don’t bust your nut too early, just ease into it. Take your time. Focus on the process. If it helps, think about baseball. If that doesn’t work, think about this.
Now, since we’re all thoroughly unaroused, let’s get on with it.
Because it’s Week 1, and because I strongly advise you to do the same, we’re going to be easing our way into it. This article will cover the DFS-Week-1-related stuff discussed on Tommy and Mans’ Friday night livestream, and then the things Mans covers in his Saturday night chat session (10p EST).
As we move through the season, expect this piece to evolve. I’ll likely broaden its scope to include Corey and Benny’s Thursday night show, DC and Healy’s Sunday morning show, the daily Coaching Sessions we have in our chat room, and plenty of other stuff.
The format is likely to evolve, as well. This week, it’s going to be bare-bones. I’ll look for your feedback in the chat and on Twitter throughout the week (feel free to DM me on Twitter with ANY thoughts!) and I’ll tailor this space to your needs and wants. This article, after all, exists for you and because of you, so bringing you guys what you want is my first priority.
Friday’s NFL NOW Livestream
QB, RB, TE, DEF seem simple this week, but WR is all over the place.
Stomach flu in TB that affected WR, particularly Godwin. Something to watch.
Dallas will be HOT, don’t be surprised if Elliott/Barkley have reduced volume.
At least 11 QB are viable, but narrowing it down to Winston, Brissett, Mayfield.
Personally not going to Stafford, prefer KJohnson and the running game.
Mayfield interesting for GPP, as well as Beckham.
Prefer Carson > Wilson in SEA.
Low on LAC, overall.
Cook is definitely a solid cash play, pretty tough to fade. Same with Carson.
No one talking about Gurley. No reason to be so low on someone who was the #1 fantasy option a year ago.
Just don’t believe in Bell. Not interested in DJohnson. Can’t endorse Ekeler.
Don’t believe the “Breida is RB1 in SF” thing. It’s an alphabetical depth chart.
Justice Hill is someone I’m pumped to play in GPP.
No interest in Mixon, think Bernard could even be a sneaky GPP play. Bernard got PAID, that tells you something about who will get the chances.
NO interest in Singletary or Guice.
Nothing not to like about Godwin, Boyd.
Beckham has to be the best WR option at the top.
Not really interested in Hill. No reason to mess w/ the best corner in the NFL.
Other than Beckham, I’m interested in paying down to mid-tier and value guys. Beckham only for GPP.
Godwin, Boyd, Golladay, Lockett, Mike Williams, DJ Moore are solid mid-tier and value WR.
Pettis the safest WR play in SF, Samuel the best GPP play, but not confident in that read, overall.
TE is easy. Kelce is my favorite. Engram also solid.
DEF is BAL, DAL, SEA, PHI. Sneaky option is DET.
Lineup Construction: Taking shots at WR, but using known quantities everywhere else, especially RB.
Winston is QB1 with a bullet. Will be on 60+% of 150 GPP LUs.
I’m interested in a 2%-owned Stafford. Don’t like him at all, he won’t have a good year, but the ARI DEF is HORRENDOUS. Basically going Winston/Stafford in most LUs, but Mayfield (w/ Beckham) may grab a spot in one of my main 3 teams.
QB deep dig could be Foles, although I’m not likely to use him. Same with Rivers. Both have upside. Newton probably next on the list.
Cook has to be a cash game lock.
Cook, Carson, McCaffrey, Ekeler, KJohnson certainly the chalk.
Every other top RB is perfectly fine. Bell, Barkley, Elliott, etc.
Like JJackson more than Ekeler.
VERY confident Bernard will outscore Singletary this week.
Jones, Beckham, Evans the top tier.
Golladay and Marvin Jones my favorite WR. Jones, especially, will go underowned.
No interest in Robbie Anderson.
Albert Wilson is an interesting GPP play.
TE is pretty boring, like QB and RB. It’s the same guys we’ve all been drafting for the last 2 months. Kittle, Ertz, Howard, Engram, Kelce.
Mans’ Saturday Night Chat
DJ Moore > Samuel in cash if price not a concern. Samuel is my pay down option though so likely going to be him as the choice
Not too concerned about Henry BUT not on my radar this week.
Carson is a surer thing, Chubb has much tougher matchup but is the better player. I go Carson
Brissett is very solid yes
No Nick Foles. Need to see him in DeFilippo’s offense first
Dalvin Cook is VERY hard to fade yes
I don’t like Chargers DST honestly no
Fading Chubb yes
No on Foles
Carson and Cook C&C Music Factory YESSSSSS
Winston/Boyd safer for cash @Tofty
@Mariannab57 Winston but not with Alshon. Find a better WR
Willis from Cincy in GPP yeah…but don’t use him with a bunch of other dart throws. He should be your ONE dart even in GPP
I love OBJ….but think too expensive and too erratic for cash. GPP for me
Low Owned Options: Justin Jackson, Sterling Shepard, Michael Gallup, Jamison Crowder
Kerryon is mysterious love child this week!
FLEX spot always make sure its your latest guy. otherwise use best option available
No on Atlanta DST
CORE 4: Jameis, Kerryon, Godwin Kelce
I am not on Marlon Mack this week. Real worried about him this year. Brissett gets a pass cause he’s minimum price and dual threat QB
Boyd > M Will by a hair
QB/WR is NOT A STACK !!
TWO WORDS WILL CHANGE ALL OF YOUR LIVES : TODD GURLEY
Cook is just better option given the game script this week….but we cannot just pass on Gurley at this insane price. for what….2 less touches?? TFO
Godwin > Diggs
Gurley + Kelce = num num num num num
Ridley is a GPP play this week. I do really like him but TD dependent and tougher opponent on road
I like the Lions DST honestly. More I think about it the better
I am warming up too Dede….I have seriously been watching Spagnuolo tape to see how he handles coverages motion to split slot
@mtshapanka its pretty close man. Want a piece of the Chiefs whenever we can get it and the Jags CBs are beyond tough….funnel to middle so little risk on TK
Give me Dede > Marvin surprisingly
Godwin > Thielen
@Fangsxx Yeah start with core….find your other favorite play then hit best value….round out with guys from article
I don’t think you want anything to do with David Johnson guys
No problem using Engram > Kelce….I get it for price
Chark GPP yeah…but that is a big pull
GUARANTEE: Kerryon Johnson 18+ FPS
No Gallup in cash….GPP
CJA might steal a goal line carry…that is in my mind but a lot of volume
Chubb > Fournette by a bit
I don’t trust Philly’s O line honestly
No no no on Jaron Brown
DJ Moore is better for cash but Samuel SO MUCH cheaper so depends how much you have
Don’t use punts in cash!!!
I’d like to not use Crowder but at minimum price with a stacked rest of lineup its fine
I doubt Breida gets most of the work….or that he stays healthy
Dalvin in cash absolutely
Seahawks DST is fantastic
Williams > Dede
Todd Gurley is the most forgotten about player in DFS this week
Yes on Pettis
Gurley is a cash play for sure
Crowder > Brown in cash…other way around in GP
@Benchpointdynasty You want the game that will be back and forth with scoring throughout. Its all about game script and when you can identify one that both offenses roll on the defense, you are in good shape
OBJ hip is fine
Williams > Moore
I have zero preference on position in FLEX….just talent lol
Marvin Jones is GPP for me. Detroit is going to be a REAL heavy running team
@JoeColonna Bankroll is the entire sum you are willing to invest. Good question actually….I wonder how many don’t realize that.
Do they even MAKE pubic hair anymore?
Out on Randall Cobb this week.
TB/SF will be popular….LAR/CAR pretty good too as is ATL/MIN. I think Cleveland is the underrated team this week though
Jags stacks aren’t going to be AS bad this year I think
I really don’t like the Browns DST for the season….they are OK here though.
DJ Moore > Sanders by a lot
@Drewpy It can be a real big help but its totally up to you. I will use it early in the week to pop off some value options I might have missed. Then as it updates Sunday morning, run again to find those ceiling guys for GPPs
Dalvin is good of course
Boyd > Lockett by a bit
Fade Diggs in DFS….I don’t see a reason to play him this week
CORE 4: Jameis, Kerryon, Godwin Kelce
Cash games are either H2H’s, 50/50’s or Double Ups. I strongly recommend 50/50’s
Mike Evans is probably the scariest player of the slate for me. Its widely known that I do not like Chris Godwin much but his matchup is off the chain. So, what’s the one thing that can go wrong there? A huge Mike Evans week
@Jensenmattp Its a good question. Because I’ll take any mid-priced WR against K’Waun Williams, the SF secondary in a game with a total of 50+
I am currently at 1 cash lineup as always and 3 GPP’s….getting WILD up in here this week
ICYMI: Antonio Brown followed me about 20 mins ago on Twitter. Waiting for his fury to reign down upon me
Mike Williams > Dede
Carson > Gurley yeah but love both
Samuel & Seahawks
I honestly missed all of you fuck heads….no idea why. From what I remember we fought a lot last year….but somewhere around May I was craving these chats
Redskins 7 points….yeah…I have them for 6 but they are a threat
BTW…I have two daughters both going to Homecoming tonight. Had about 50 people in my house taking pictures, parents wanting to talk, etc….I sat in the corner chatting with you guys…..literally had to look like the shittiest parent EVER
Robby Anderson…was banged up and will be shadowed by Tre’Davious White…pass
Sterling Shepard is the guy that I THOUGHT would grade out higher and I had to dig in as to why. I think that I am too low on the Giants offense right now. Their line is pretty darn good and Saquon is a stud so should move ball. Shepard is one of very few guys that you could use outside of writeup IMO
You can fade Cook yeah…no great but there are plenty of RBs
I think Tevin Coleman is an OK play in GPP ONLY. Everybody will own Breida and Coleman will score the TD’s
Paul Richardson line: 3-1-17-1
@nated1224 Good question. That is why guys like Gurley, Kerryon Johnson, etc are nice pivots
Ridley….not quite safe for cash, no. GPP yes
Godwin in CORE yes
Guys….Rez is a VERY good source for some sharp GPP plays. Always has a pretty different but calculated take
Shepard is the one guy not in the writeup that is cash viable yes
Williams > DJ Moore
I hope that the cash breakdown has a new look for next week. We have been working on something new that would let you do research right in the article and hope its ready this week
Yeah I am on Godwin in cash
@Bellcanto80 Yeah I dig that I really do. I have Engram as the Giants leading receiver so using him as a FLEX is definitely solid
Kelce isn’t quite a “must” cause he is expensive and Engram is in a great spot too
Let’s run through scenarios. Kelce + (WR) Vs Engram + (TE)
Not on Fournette this week. Not terrible but if they get down a lot he might even get shut down early
God I love Justice Hill….worried I am too involved with him though
UPDATE: A little bird (someone close to the team, I am serious here) told me today that Justin Jackson and Austin Ekeler will be in a 50/50 timeshare this week.
Gurley > Evans
I was talking to Hansen though the other day and he was like “don’t sweat it dude. They fucking HATED me for 25 years!”
Cook > Carson > Kerryon > Gurley raw points without salary considered in cash.
I posed several value options earlier. Gio Bernard, Justin Jackson, Dante Pettis, Sterling Shepard (added him now), Jamison Crowder
I don’t love 49ers all that much honestly. They will be chalky. Arizona too…
The Lions have two REAL good CBs so out on Cardinals WR’s
BTW…everybody see what Jalen Hurts is doing this year? Still think Kyler is “special?”
John Brown in GPP is good yeah
Engram > Shepard
Have an OBJ lineup tomorrow. Not ideal for cash because of $$ but all GPP lineups
Personally not have Dede no
I think Diggs plays but he doesn’t do well when banged up
Boyd >>>>> D Jax
Cook >> Chubb
Crowder barely cash viable but yes
