This article will attempt to bridge the gap between the conservative Man’s Cash Doctrine, and the “all in” Mass Multi Entry (MME) approach to GPPs. There is a middle ground I call winnable GPPs. They are perfect for the more risk tolerant DFS players. Many GPPs pay out 20-25% of the field, and if you search you can find some that pay out 2X on your entry fee if you place in the outer fringe.
By all means play your cash games and take your shots downfield on a large field GPPs when it fits your situation. But here we will focus on the winnable GPPs that pay 22%-25% of the field and avoid the robotic mass entry sharks.
What a week 3. It was the classic setup!. The late games were going to crush your finishes if you faded some pretty obvious players. To whittle that down a little bit more, if you faded the Wilson Lockett pairing, you had a difficult time finishing high in almost any GPP. The DK 250K Red Zone is always a good representation of how the week went as a whole. The top 4 finishers all had the Wilson (39.8pts) Lockett (40pts) pairing. Three of four brought it back with Gallup (28.8pts). Interesting that none of the top four used the Colts D. Mike Davis was used in two of the top four lineups. You will not see Dak’s name until lineup number eleven. As always there are many ways to victory. I’m just pointing out that there is always the early slate if you decide to fade a potential shootout like we witnessed Sunday afternoon. Are we concerned for this weekend? Possibly… We know New England’s secondary was built to stop the Chief’s passing game, but we all know what Mahomes can do with a football. Do we worry about other top stacks going of as well? Goff/Kupp/Woods? Allen/Diggs/Brown? You get the idea. If you play the main slate you may want to include some of these guys if you are rolling with multiple lineups. Analyze your builds, and if you are mostly fading these late games, pivot to the early slate and avoid the hammers!
NFL Week 4- DK
NFL 250K First Down $1 – If you are looking a contest for the people, here it is. The 250K First Down is a 20 max that only costs a dollar to enter. The field size is huge at just over 297K. So why is this a contest for the people? Well for starters is pays out a whopping 27%, 1st prize is only 4% of the total prizes and the top 10 only taking home just under 11%. Unfortunately it is only a 1.5X Min Cash, but the top prize is a cool 10K. Additional info for this contest from DK…
All Pink ‘Em profits from this contest will be donated to the Larry Fitzgerald First Down Fund for Breast Cancer Support. Additionally, all users in this $250K contest who score higher than any Week 4 Reignmaker will win entry into an exclusive $10K contest. Check out the promotions page to learn more!
NFL 200K Nickel $5 – The Nickel is a large field contest with 47.5K lineups. Top prize is 15K and that is only 7.5% of the total prizes. The top 10 only receive 23.5%, so it’s not top heavy at all. It’s a three max entry and min cash is 1.6X. The best part about the Nickel is it pays out 26% of finishers.
NFL 40K Hot Route $100 – The Hot Route moves us into a very winnable smaller field contest that has a top prize of 5K and a field on only 444. 22.75% of finishers will double their money and take home $200. It’s a 13 max entry tournament, but I usually see lots of single entries and a few guys with three or four. Some of the big guys will max it out, but this is the space we play in. The rake is a very low 10%.
NFL Week 4- FD
$100K Sun NFL Spike $5 – We are going right back to the Spike in week 4. The 100K Spike is a large field contest with 23,809 lineups. It’s a SE, Min Cash is 2.0X, and the top prize is $10K. 25.3% of the finishes will cash! If you have a modest bankroll and want to play the best contest every week that will keep you in the game, but with upside, this is one of the best.
$100K Sun NFL Sweep $25 – If you want to move up the SE ladder on FanDual, you will arrive at the 100K Sweep. The Sweep top prize is the same as the Spikes, but you have a dramatically smaller field to contend with at 4705. The top 25.5% of finishers will Min Cash 2.0X. So as you increase the entry fee, and decrease the field, all else remains about the same, except your odds of taking this tournament down!
$125K Sun NFL Cover 2 $100 – The Cover 2 is a Single Entry with a top prize of $12,500. It’s a smaller contest with a field of 1420 that pays out the top 25% finishers at 2.0X. If you recently hit a top finish in DFS and want to play in one of the cream of the crop $100 tourneys, consider the Cover 2.
Jedi Rules – Each week I’ll add a rule that although you can certainly break, you will want to pay attention to. For example if you are stuck on two players, apply the rule.
Week one – We learned that you may not want to start an opposing running back against the Pittsburg defensive line. Barkley 15 carries for 6 yards.
Week two – We learned that Leonard Fournette is the guy in Tampa Bay. After a long search, Bruce Arians has finally found his guy. Play Fournette before his salary explodes. Also a shout out to Mans for the outstanding call on Fournette in week 2!
Week three – Week three’s rule was going to be to ignore week two’s rule. But I think you stick with Fournette. Week three’s rule is sell high on OBJ and ignore him in DFS. He has publically stated he’s probably not going to put up big numbers. Let go of the past and live in the now. Cleveland will destroy you on the ground not through the air.
Good luck in week 4…Peace, and as always be safe out there.
