One of our most loyal (and successful!) subs, Jedi_Pred, takes a walk through the DraftKings and FanDuel lobbies and identifies the NFL GPPs that give you the best chance at a big score!
This article will attempt to bridge the gap between the conservative “Mans Cash Doctrine” and the “all-in” Mass-Multi-Entry (MME) approach to NFL DFS contest selection. There is a middle ground I call “winnable GPPs”, which are perfect for more risk-tolerant DFS players. Many GPPs pay out 22-25% of the field, and if you search you can find some paying out 2x your entry fee if you simply put yourself on the fringe.
By all means, play your cash games and “take your shots downfield” in 150-max GPPs when it fits your situation, but here we will focus on the “winnable GPPs” that pay 22%-25% of the field and allow us to avoid the robotic MME sharks.
But, hey: It’s Week 2, and you probably have some cash in your pockets, so let’s start with a shot downfield!
NFL 1.75M Play-Action $3 – Yeah, I know what you are thinking. The field on this contest is larger than the population of Malta. But here are the facts. It pays out almost 26%! It’s a 20 entry max, and with a top prize of 100K, which by the way is only 5.71% of the purse. For $60 you can max enter this tournament and take your shots downfield. This is your lottery ticket for the week. By looking at the experience badges, we can dismiss a lot of the field as casual players. Temper expectations, but for $3 you have a decent chance of returning $5. Enter 20 lineups and have some fun with your builds, and go for a high place finish. Don’t stop believing!
NFL 50K Screen Pass $15 – Here we go! This is a 3 entry max with a field of 3921. It pays out a bit over 22% of the field with 10% going to first and the top 10 getting 30%. With a top payout of 5K this contest is screen shot worthy if you outlast the competition. You can take your three shots with the best of them (or worse of them) and get in the game with this very winnable GPP.
NFL 50K Blindside $27 – This tourney is a single entry tournament that pays out 22.4% and has a field of 2159. If you hit the outer fringe in place 484 you will collect $50. The top prize is 5K which is 10% of the purse, and the top 10 receive 31%. Being a SE tourney you will avoid a lot of the sharks that can only play 150 lineups to be successful. This is the contest you want to go head to head against the field with your best lineup. Let’s go get it.
$5K NFL Beginners Drive $2 – This contest mimics a lot of high stakes contests without the high price tag. It has a smaller field of 2777 contestants and pays out a tad over 24% with 8% going to first place. It’s a 10 max entry and only costs $2 to enter. The top prize is $400. So for $20 you can max enter and get a real feel what is like to hand build 10 lineups, and really dig into the process of covering more bases than just your single entry or three max tournaments.
$30K NFL Onside Kick $15 – For a modest entry fee, you can move up to this little hidden gem. The top prize is 3K in the Onside Kick with first taking 10% of the purse. It pays out almost 24% of the field and the size is a winnable 2352 entrants.
There you have it. You have some winnable GPPs to enter. Even if you do not take one down there is still a good chance you return a decent percentage of your entry fees if you can just break the top 23 or 24% of the field. Good luck this weekend and remember to have fun with it.
