This article will attempt to bridge the gap between the conservative Man’s Cash Doctrine, and the “all in” Mass Multi Entry (MME) approach to GPPs. There is a middle ground I call winnable GPPs. They are perfect for the more risk tolerant DFS players. Many GPPs pay out 20-25% of the field, and if you search you can find some that pay out 2X on your entry fee if you place in the outer fringe.
By all means play your cash games and take your shots downfield on a large field GPPs when it fits your situation. But here we will focus on the winnable GPPs that pay 22%-25% of the field and avoid the robotic mass entry sharks. But hey, it’s week 2 and you probably have some cash in your pockets. Week one was all about having fun. This week we get down to work by looking at some inexpensive, winnable GPP’s. Several long term subs have asked for this. Frank Rizzo and Dapeach even cornered me in chat this week on the topic, so here we go!
NFL Week 2- DK
NFL 50K Huddle $5 – The Huddle is the gold standard of low cost GPP SEs… This is the one dudes. Min Cash is 2x and 21% of finishes will get paid. It’s cheap at a $5 entry, and the winner takes home a cool 5K. Top prize is 10% of the total haul and the top 10 only receive 25%. You will not find a more balanced payout structure. It just doesn’t get any better. The field size is a bit daunting at 11,800, but this is what we sign up for every week. This is your low cost single GPP for the week on DK.
NFL 25K Safety $2 – Although not considered an MME effort, the 2 dollar Safety has a max entry of 20. You can cover a lot of ground with 20 lineups. And at $2 it will not destroy your bankroll, and hopefully add to it. Min cash is only 1.5X, but it pays out 24% of finishers, 6% going to 1st, and a top prize of $1500. This can be an exercise in optimizer management and valuable practice if MME is going to be your thing. The field size is 14,800.
NFL Tiers $35KTriple Option $3 – If you are not familiar with the Tiers tourneys here is the skinny. You have 8 Tiers in which to choose a player. It’s your choice. There is no salary cap, you simply pick a guy you think will outperform the other guys in that tier. The 35K Triple Option Min Cash is 2X, pays 21% of finishers, and has a field size of 13,800. First place takes only 8.5% of the total prize, and the top 10 around 24%. Talk about balanced! The top prize is 3K and 2nd is 2K, and 3rd is 1K…Let’s go!
NFL Week 2- FD
$40K Sun NFL Safety $2 – This is one of those rare single entry tournaments that combines a very balanced payout structure with a 2X Min Cash. The top 25% top finishers will double their money with some major upside if you have a high finish. The field size is 23809 with the top prize of 4K.
$5K Sun NFL Safety $2 – Many times Fanduel offers a large and small version of the same contest. They keep the structure the same and lower the field. That is the case with the Safety. FD lowers the field to a winnable 2976 with the top prize of $500. So if you hear one of our analysts say large field play, think the 8K Safety. If you hear them tout a smaller field play or even some of the core 4 plays, think the 5K Safety. That’s not to say you cannot mix and match! This is DFS and, well, it’s a crazy game.
$18K Sun NFL Safety $2 (Early Slate) – You will need to use the horrible FD interface to navigate to the early slate to find this one. But here is the skinny on this technique. When you have your lineup almost built and are teetering on a couple of players, check to see if you can have an all early slate build. If you do, create an early lineup and a late lineup, and enter all of them into the Safety for both early and main. This version pays 23.3% of the field with the same 2x Min Cash. Top prize is 1K with a size of 10714 entrants.
Jedi Rules – Each week I’ll add a rule that although you can certainly break, but you will want to pay attention to. For example if you are stuck on two players, apply the rule.
Week one – We learned that you may not want to start an opposing running back against the Pittsburg defensive line. Barkley 15 carries for 6 yards.
There you have it. You have some inexpensive winnable GPPs to enter. Even if you do not take one down there is still a good chance you return a decent percentage of your entry fees if you can just break the top 20 something percentage of the field. Peace, and as always be safe out there.
