We have a new suite of tools! Yes, Elite Fantasy has delivered a groundbreaking set of stats that just a few years ago you would have to table copy from various sites and compile by yourself. Hell, back in the day most of this stuff didn’t even exist! As players slowly got their hands on this data they became “in the know” and dominated early DFS. Enter 2021. Elite Fantasy has just unveiled EliteData Beta and this is by no means a comprehensive review. That said, let’s kick the tires on this thing and see what we got.
Think the Tigers have the worse pitching in the league? Think the Giants can’t hit a baseball? Well no the Tigers are not the worse, and hell yes the Giants can hit a baseball. So obviously the first thing that stands out to me is the Team Statistics Tab. Here you can click to your heart’s content and get a very good grasp of teams that are killing it in regard to a certain metric. It will not take you long to start attacking the Diamondback and Angles staffs. You may want to buy a spare mouse, because there is a lot to learn here.
Now give the Player Statistics Tab a try. I’ve got one of these in .xls form and it will be replaced by this tab moving forward. You want to sort a position with just ISO? No problem. You want to sort by AB/HR? The easy button is at your beckon call…Are you surprised to see Brandon Crawford at one tater per thirteen at bats? (Giant Bat)… One really useful trick I can see already is the ability to sort this area by position. If I hear the word punt one more time I’m going to go spit on a stranger. (disclaimer: no strangers were spit on during the writing of this article)… In this day and age if you completely punt a position you are an idiot. If you do any back testing of winning lineups you will see that the winners do not waste a position. The last I checked a single, SB and a run scored was still worth 10 points on DK. Sort your punts 2b for SB totals and a decent batting average or on base %. Punt! That is so 2019. Get with the program. After a while you will be sorting on the stat that makes the most impact to you and developing your own process. Did I mention all of this stuff can be exported and manipulated?
Under Today Premium my brain gravitated right to the Projected Pitchers Tab. We now have Statcast data at our fingertips! (Naked dance)… So yeah, here you will see all kinds of good stuff that only self-proclaimed YouTube gurus regurgitate on a daily basis. Tip, they think they are the only ones that can get Statcast data lol. Exit Velo, Barrel % Hard Contact%…It’s all here. With one click you can see if the industry calls a pitcher an extreme groundball pitcher (usually 2 seamer, sinking FB type), or a fly ball pitcher (think 4 seamer up and with heat). Pay attention to the GB% and the FB% to get a feel for a certain pitcher. Then play that against his opponents. More on that in a sec. The last thing I’d add is the WIN%. The last I looked a win times two was worth eight DK points. Pay attention to this projection and don’t give up eight points in your daily gpps. This can easily be the difference between $1500 and eighty bucks in these tight gpps.
Right under the projected pitchers tab we have the Projected Hitters Tab. Again we have some valuable Statcast data tucked in at the end of the rows. I love to see Stanton and Judge battle the AVG EV stat out, but are you surprised to see Longoria so high on the list? Another Giant (foot tapping floor)… And Pinder? SB ATT and ON BASE may be a good place to start figuring out your punts (cough). Do you see that Profile column? Here a lot of the work has been done for you. Let’s take the mighty Blue Jays today. By clicking the Team column you will quickly see that Semien-Teoscar-Grichuk all profile as fly ball hitters. Great right? Fly balls turn into homeruns. Then if you head back to the Projected Pitchers Tab you will see that Urquidy FB% is a whopping 45%. By looking at the other metrics you can see that yes Urquidy does a good job at limiting hard contact and exit velocity. But I just can’t get over the fact that Vlad and Bo both have max exit velos over 115MPH and barrel % at 15% and 12% respectively. And they are at home. It could be a long game for Houston today. Move that process to another possible stack. Repeat as necessary.
There is a lot to do and see here in the new EliteData Beta. This is so new Rob cannot tell me what his favorite section is, and Ted “thinks” the name is the Smash Report. Either way it’s going to help a lot of good DFS players turn into excellent players very quickly. Everyone at Elite Fantasy invites you to check it out and as always your feedback is encouraged. You asked for tools, and again Elite Fantasy has delivered.
Peace, and always, stay safe out there.
