GEICO 500 Quick Facts
- Talladega Superspeedway
- Sunday 06/21/20 3:00 PM
- 2.66 mile, Paved
This is a 188 lap event. No practice, no qualifying.
Do not………..I repeat…………Do not be afraid to leave ANY amount of money on the table here at Talladega! The “Big One” wreck which takes out a large number of driver that almost always happens here. Making a number of the low end guys playable who will finish well due to missing it.
Last Race Notables: Ryan Blaney won.
- Laps Led: Blaney 35, Stenhouse 32, Kes 22, Elliott 9, Logan and Kurt Busch 16, Bowyer and Byron 13.
- Start/Finish: Newman 13/2, Hamlin 40/3, McDowell 22/5, A Dillon 20/6, Lajoie 33/7, Ty Dillon 21/10, Chastain 34/12, Cassill 25/14, Klingerman 32/15, Preece 30/18, Sorenson 38/22
Remember, number of laps sways the importance of scoring in different directions. Less laps = less laps led pts, and less fastest lap pts. Making place finish and place differential points a bit more valuable. Yes, you will still need the dominator, but it is less likely to have two or three of them and really separate them from the pack. I expect two or three guys to get some significant laps led pts this weekend unlike last year where Harvick got them all.
Nascar DFS Process
Let me give you guys a better idea of what we are doing here for Nascar. We put out an early article with some track stats and what drivers I will have my eyes on based on some numbers. Things can change once qualifying and practice are over, so then we put out an update with drivers who seem to be fast or have had a good or bad qualifying run. I put out a total of 12 drivers I like and a few who I am off. The guys I am off are typically guys who don’t run that well here and have qualified in a decent position.
I am trying to narrow things down for you. Too much information can just be confusing. If you need more information, you can look at the projections tab and cheat sheet.
Take a look at the scoring to better understand why I do it this way:
Drivers will accumulate points as follows:
- Place Differential = +/- 1 PTs(Where they start vs where they finish….start 20th ,finish 10th = 10pts)
- Fastest Laps = +0.5 PTs
- Laps Led = +0.25 PTs
- Finishing Position Scoring (winner 46pts, 2nd 42pts, 3rd 41, 4th 40, 39,38,37 etc…)
- .1pts for each lap completed.
- Place Differential = +/- .5 PTs(Where they start vs where they finish….start 20th ,finish 10th = 10pts)
- Fastest Laps = +0.5 PTs
- Laps Led = +0.1 PTs
- Finishing Position Scoring (winner 43pts, 2nd 40pts, 3rd 38, 4th 37, 36,35,34 etc…)
Chase Elliott ($10,400) – Starting 11th. 4 top 10’s, 3 top 5’s and a win here. Good a pick as any to win here on Sunday. Running hot as well.
Brad Keselowski ($9,600) – Starting 6th. 11 top 10’s, 7 top 5’s and 5 wins at Talladega. Kes has been in the right spot at the right time all year and should be a solid pick for Sunday’s race.
Chis Bell ($9,700) – Starting 35th. Starting position play. Should be a safe cash game play and possible GPP.
Ryan Blaney($10,100) – Starting 12th. Won last year here. Been up and down. Running fast this year. Look for Blaney to content on Sunday if he can stay out of trouble..
Denny Hamlin ($9,200) – Starting 2nd. 11 top 10’s, 7 top 5’s and a win here. I like the 7 top 5’s and getting Hamlin at a discount. Sign me up.
Ricky Stenhouse, Jr ($8,400) – Starting 20th. Wrecking Ricky……….It pains me to recommend him, but you can’t discount his solid runs here. 8 top 10’s, 5 top 5’s and a win for a typical low end guy. I will have some shares.
Kurt Busch ($8,500) – Starting 7th. 20 top 10’s, 8 top 5’s. Just runs pretty consistent here and is a safe bet to have a good race and stay out of trouble on Sunday.
Brendan Gaughan ($7,600) – Starting 39th. Starting position play. Low end guy with 2 top 10’s and a top 5 here.
(Make sure we check starting positions)
Daniel Suarez ($7,300) – Starting 37th . Starting position play. 1 top 10 and a bunch of finishes in the teens.
Ty Dillon($7,100) –Starting 33rd. Just underpriced! Finished 3rd here last year. On a top team and really needs to start perfoming.
Aric Almirola ($6,800) – Starting 15th. 8 top 10’s, 4 top 5’s and a win here. Nice price for a guy who could win this race and runs the super speedways well. 4 of his last 7 are top 5 finishes here.
Ryan Preece ($6,200) – Starting 31st. Starting position play for a guy who has had a decent rookie campaign.
Honorable mention and very playable due to starting position and missing the “Big One” – Hill, Smithley, Gase, Yeley
Picks to win
- Elliott +700
- Kes +800
- Hamlin +1000
