Fellas, I’m not going to lie. I’m a bit lost with how to judge this past weekend. On one hand, we freaking smashed everything possible on Saturday. Pukki scored 3 goals and a billion points. We had winners all over the place. However, I didn’t rate Mason Mount nearly high enough and it cost us. Not only that, but goal dependent players like Zaha and Giroud really struggled. I cashed in a few spots but overall lost on Sunday. SHIT! On the whole, big time profit for me 2 weeks into the season.
Let’s finish gameweek 2 strong with the Manchester United v Wolves battle.
Let’s head to the desert…
Wolves +215 2.5 (+120o/-145u)
Man Untited +140
Wolves are a tough team to play against no matter the circumstance. At home, they are even more difficult. In 2018/19, they conceded only 1.11 goals per game, well below the 1.25 average across the league. They picked up 1.79 pts/game at home; a half a point better than their road form.
What makes them so difficult is their discipline. One of the benefits of rolling out the same 11 players every week is familiarity. Moving parts makes mistakes more likely. Playing with the same players to your left and right, front and back gives players confidence. Wolves beat United 2-1 at home last year. They also beat Arsenal and Chelsea at home. They also tied Chelsea/Tottenham/Arsenal and United on the road. They play the big boys tough.
For United, the argument is that this isn’t the same team. It’s not the same system. They are younger. Hungrier. Faster. Deeper. (arguably) More than anything they have their back 5 set and will build forward from their.
DFS — Showdown Slate
Pogba – MU – $9.8k
2 assists in week 1. The maestro for United. He is sitting a bit deeper in the current system with Pereira pushed forward but he’s so influential. A benefactor of the shots assisted category as well.
Martial – MU – $9.2k
Playing through the middle is his bag. Got his goal last week and put 2 shots on goal, the most of anyone in this game. In this role he does NEED a goal. In a game where we don’t think there will be many, it will be valuable when he does put one in.
Wan-Bissaka – MU – $6.4k
A potential captain pick. Super solid. A player with a floor who’s generally on the cheaper side. This isn’t dirt cheap but enough to be a piece your lineup.
Maguire – MU – $4.8k
Big time target on FD. He’ll have many opportunities for clearances. I like him on DK for his goal upside. Pereira serves a decent ball and Maguire will get his big head on the end of one.
Pereira – MU – $5.2k
Did extraordinarily little considering he was taking corners and picked up an assist. However, this is too cheap. Definite value here.
Rashford – MU – $11.4k
I’d love to rank him higher but this is just too expensive if he doesn’t score the goal. I’ll likely have shares but he won’t make my main.
DeGea – MU – $7k
The 7 save, CS + Win games won’t happen often. Take his score last week with a grain of salt but I do think United can win this in a low scoring game. A stab if making multiple lineups isn’t the worst idea.
Dendonker – WOL – $4.6k
Love this price for him. The new scoring rules benefit Leandro. 2 shots assisted boosted his score. He also took 2 shots himself. A similar game is in store.
Bennet – WOL – $3.2k
This is basically free so he’s in play. His 4 interceptions will be tough to repeat, as will the clean sheet.
Jota – WOL – $8.4k
If United struggles, it’s in between the midfield and defensive lines. That is where Diego Jota lives. I prefer several United players more in this range but we do need pieces of Wolves. His upside is as high as anyone’s on the slate.
Doherty – WOL – $5.8k
My preferred wing back of the slate if you have the extra $600 over Jonny. Doherty will be down Shaw’s side and will have more success.
Moutinho – WOL – $8k
A touch expensive, frankly. However, he’s on set piece duty as always. The presence of Maguire will make it harder for teams to score on United but Mou will put balls in the box.
Not listed — Jimenez – I was so impressed with Maguire and Lindelof. I can see them putting Jimenez in their back pocket. He’s really a big bully in the box and these boys can handle that. For his price, I’m fading.
- Anthony Martial – First goal – 0.5u to win 2.5
