Your boy Duke has your back for Wednesday’s Showdown Slate!!
Whew we got big money up top. I’ll take second I guess. $25k would feel pretty nice considering everything going on around the world.
Let’s head to the desert…
- Man City -305 | 3.5 (EVENo/-120u)
- Arsenal +700
- DRAW +450
The master vs the teacher. Mikel Arteta has been groomed by Pep as his protege. You know how that ends? The pupil ventures off on their own and tries his best to one up the teacher. BIG opportunity for both teams here.
City have the top 4 wrapped up and can’t catch Liverpool. They are likely banned from the Champions League next season. What do they have to play for? Several players are already seeking moves away from the Citizens. I’m a bit worried about City. We’ll see post Covid and moving forward. They are massive home favorites here but should they be? Oh, they are playing Arsenal. Yeah the line seems about right.
Arsenal are a confusing team. They have talent and world class #9 but Auba and Laca can’t seem to gel together and form a partnership the rest of the Prem should fear. Arsenal have 2 wins away from 15 games. They just can’t get it done. Against the top 4 they have 4 losses and 1 draw. 0 wins. Arteta will get things turned around but I expect Arsenal to be playing from behind at some point in this game.
The huge news is that Pep might finally have a full squad. KDB and Laporte are both declared fit which is a huge boost to the backline and attack. I have City winning this game, as they’ve done the last 6 times they’ve played Arsenal. They’ve won those games by an average of 2.5 goals. The goal line is City -1.5 with some juice. Insane to think about but that is the difference in class between these teams.
- De Bruyne
De Bruyne – MCI – $12.4k
This price for a reason. He’s killed Arsenal and should be on sets. The Arsenal midfield will allow him to find space and send in crosses from deeper positions.
Sterling – MCI – $9.8k
Prefer Sterling to Mahrez but only slightly. Both Arsenal fullbacks can struggle defensively but this is more about Sterling’s salary + goal upside v Mahrez.
Mahrez – MCI – $10.8k
If no KDB I might be all in. With KDB in he’s in play for GPP but that means no Sterling/Aguero. I like attacking Kolsinac/Tierney/Saka at LB.
Aguero – MCI – $10.4k
Goal dependent stud. In this fixture it’s feast or famine for Aguero. He’s scored a hatrick and been blanked. Nothing in between of late. The majority of the goals have come from wide positions or KDB a bit deeper.
Mendy – MCI – $6.2k
This is so dependent on how City play, which we won’t know until we see it. There were times when the fullbacks were essentially wingers in this system but we’ve also seen them sit back quit a bit as well. In their last match, in a 3-0 win, Mendy lasted 85 minutes with 4 crosses. I prefer him to Walker but he’s not a must play. Cheapish exposure to the likely winner.
Laporte – MCI – $4k
A big boost to City’s chances would be the return of Laporte. He’s key in possession but with likely CB partner Fernandinho staying back on set pieces, Laporte’s prowess in the air is needed. He’s isn’t known as a massive threat to score but will be in the mix on Wednesday. The majority of his points will come from accurate passes and tackles/interceptions.
Gundogan – MCI – $7.4k
IF he’s with Rodri then he’s in play as he will be allowed to push forward and join KDB in the advanced midfield positions. If he’s with D Silva or B Silva he’ll have to play the deeper pivot and lose value.
Auba – ARS – $9.2k
Do Arsenal score? If so it’s likely him. If not he’ll struggle to justify this price.
Pepe – ARS – $7.8k
Arsenal will need his dynamism if they are to win. We know that City have been cut up on the counter attack by pace which Pepe has in bundles. He did put in a decent performance last time against City with 7 crosses but only 1 shot. That’s the worry – upside.
Saka – ARS – $4.6k
Playing against City will hurt his upside but even still, his 1x floor won’t kill you with some upside. He’s had stinkers against the likes of Chelsea/United so he’s in the mix but not a must play.
Ceballos – ARS – $5k
Returned to the team and starting to impact games from a bit deeper but this is not the matchup I necessarily think fits his game. Might not even start.
Guendouzi – ARS – $4.2k
IF HE STARTS, he’ll be in there to break up play and start counter attacks. That can lead to a 1.5x-2x game here. GPP only but we will need some salary breaks here at some point.
Ozil – ARS – $5.6k
He’s so tempting at this price but he’s such a pussy and fades in difficult games. All it takes is getting kicked once in the first 5 minutes and he’ll float into spots where he won’t receive the ball and disappear. Full fade.
2 GAME CLASSIC SLATE
I don’t expect a ton from the Villa/Sheffield game so the majority of plays will be on the City/ARS side.
- El Ghazi
