Duke’s EPL DFS Preview for Two-Game Monday Funday slate…
A Sunday article Duke? You bet your ass.
We have 2 games on Monday afternoon and it’s Masters Sunday. I’m not getting paid by the word so let’s be lethal in our analysis and prudent with our word choices.
To the desert…
EPL DFS GAME THOUGHTS
A couple of teams in poor form but coming off fantastic results. West Brom handed Chelsea a shock loss after going up 11 men to 10 following the Chelsea red card. The shocking factor for me was West Brom being able to finish 5 chances. I wasn’t sure they could do that in training, let alone a live action Prem game. Pereira continued to impress and Callum Robinson found the back of the net twice. They are 11 points off 17th place and safety with just 8 games to play. To get out of this position would take an actual miracle. They’ll be looking to take momentum into a home match here against an inconsistent opponent.
We can’t just say Southampton beat Burnley 3-2. We have to talk about HOW they did it. Southampton are in no man’s land in the table. They could fight for the top half but that just puts a little extra coin in the owner’s pockets. It doesn’t really do anything for the players. Pride and playing for the manager is all they have left. They were down 2-0 to a side that doesn’t score many goals. They could have folded like a cheap tent but they battled back and had the game tied up by halftime. They pushed for the third in the second half and were rewarded for their efforts. I’ve made no secret that I do not rate Fraser Forrester as a GK but he’s always been a decent shot stopper when the ball is off the pitch. What I mean by that is that he’s 6’7”. It takes a while for the big man to cover his bottom corners but he covers a large portion of the goal just standing still. He made some big saves in that game and kept his side in the game. In short, this team isn’t going through the motions here.
I expect Southampton to be on the front foot and pushing for all 3 points. A loss really doesn’t hurt them and a draw doesn’t really help them. Ralph will have a go.
Everton have looked like shit. Based on their form this season that means they’ll probably win here 4-0. I’m joking but I’m not. I don’t know what I’m going to get from them, ever. It’s not fun as an analyst. I’m guessing it’s not very fun for the manager or players either. I’ve looked for reasons and correlations up and down the schedule. Was it rest in between games? Was it a particular player being in or out? Home v away? Prior results influencing a future match? THERE IS NOTHING. Blows my mind. So yeah, I’m not quite throwing my hands up and saying F it but I’m not OVER analyzing it and drawing bold proclamations. In general, they prefer a 1-1 game to a 3-2 game. Defensive solidity is the foundation and they hope to create. That’s the way I see them play. Defensive first and take care of that. If they score goals, fantastic.
Brighton – great football, mixed results. I hope Potter doesn’t change his system. Instead, I’d like to see him continue to build out his squad through a few transfer windows. They have an overlap of talent at certain positions and a dearth at others. More squad balance would move them up the table. The Tariq Lamtey injury was also a turning point in the season and they’ll be excited to get him back next year.
As for this match, I know the first game was a shootout finishing 4-2 but I’ll take the under on that scoreline for this fixture. We should see chances. Can they finish?
