Duke’s EPL DFS Preview for Saturday’s three-match slate…
What a couple of Champions League matches. We are set up for 2 fantastic second leg games next week with everything to play for. Chelsea grabbed their away goal in the 1-1 draw. PSG folded like a cheap tent in the second half. I can only assume that was the tactical setup Poch had for his men and if that is in fact the case, it was a major error and could lead to PSG’s exit from the competition. Big game Poch at it again! I had a sub DM me at halftime asking for bets for the second half. Remember, PSG absolutely dominated the first half with a high pressing, aggressive team action.
Now, City have their 2 away goals, a lead in the agg score and head back to the Etihad. PSG are not out of this competition. Gueye will miss after his red card (called it – sorta) but they need to be expansive and attacking anyway. Herrera can do that job. It should be fun!
For now, we talk EPL. To the desert…
Ben White is back! It doesn’t seem significant but it essentially forced 3 players to play out of position and it showed. They were pathetic against Sheffield and lost 1-0. Gross slotted out to the RWB, Veltman to CB and Lallana had to play deeper in midfield. Only one of those moves makes sense and Gross was stil the first one subbed off. It was just a blip and uninspired performance. I don’t expect a hangover here and the team should return to normal.
Leeds play every game like it’s a cup championship. They are the anti-Everton in that sense. They’ve always been a touch more conservative at home but that reached new levels in their last match against Man United. It was effective as they did pick up a point and manage to create a few chances in the match. Quietly they are on a 6 match unbeaten run with a win over Man City and draws against Liverpool and United. Could THEY be hungover here? I doubt it. Bielsa has created machines/robots. These players aren’t human. Expect the droid army to be flying Sat morning.
Chelsea are the biggest favorite on the slate but obviously played Tuesday in UCL action and have the second leg on Wednesday of next week. This has been a long, taxing season. I would expect heavy rotation to keep the first 11 fresh. It won’t be a complete rotation with Chelsea sitting in 4th, just 3 points clear of West Ham in the UCL race. Of course, if they win the Champions League it doesn’t matter where they finish in the league…they’ll qualify anyway!
I actually expected this total to be a touch lower. Fulham aren’t exactly a team to fly forward and score goals and have been pretty solid defensively as well. Chelsea won the fixture at Craven Cottage 1-0 and I can see a similar scoreline in this one.
Micahel Keane and Doucoure will both miss this one through injury but Ancelotti has a full squad to pick from otherwise. Per usual, we aren’t quite sure what Everton we are going to get but we know the game will be competitive. Everton have played 32 matches in the Prem. They’ve won 15. They’ve only won by 2 or more goals 4 times. That’s 12.5% of total games played and just 27% of wins. Point being, they rarely blow teams out. They are also conceding 1.56 goals per game at home. It’s a worrying stat and probably the biggest factor when considering their position in the table.
For Villa, the curious case of Mr Grealish continues. Until told otherwise we need to assume he’s out. Villa literally snatched a point from defeat against West Brom last weekend. They were outplayed for stretches of the day but substitute Davis was able to toe poke a ridiculous touch off the chest of Bartley to bag the 92nd minute equalizer. HAVE IT OUT BIG MAN! It all but doomed West Brom to the Championship and kept the hope of the top half alive for Villa. It did cover up a real lack of creativity in the final third. They took 24 shots, 13 of which were either blocked or well wide. The shot mat is a bit comical actually:
If they made it an NFT it’d probably sell for like $5k lol.
I expect a competitive game here. It’s the afternoon hammer and does have some interesting DFS players so it will garner some ownership.
