What’s up #ELITEMAFIA, it’s a 4-game College Football Friday night starting at 7 pm PM EST. Let’s jump right into the game by game breakdown.
Duke @ Virginia Tech (7:00 PM KICKOFF)
Spread: VT -2.5 | Total: 53
I’d expect a close contest and starting with Duke, you must consider Quentin Harris tonight. The dual-threat quarterback has nearly 700 yards and eight touchdowns. Also, he is the team’s leading rusher and he is coming off a 107-rushing game, which is good news since the Virginia Tech defense ranks 88th against the run. Harris has targeted Jalon Calhoun 16 times the last 2 games. Noah Gray and Aaron Young each have seen 12+ per game during those 2 games.
As far as Virginia Tech is concerned, they could have a tough time trying to run and will probably rely on Ryan Willis tonight. Willis hasn’t lived up to the preseason hype. I have no interest in a team that had issues with Furman.
DFS Targets: QB Quentin Harris (DUKE), WR Jalon Calhoun (DUKE)
Penn State @ Maryland (8:00 PM KICKOFF)
Spread: PSU -6.5 | Total: 60.5
This game has the highest total on the slate, but it’s not a big one. For Penn State, Sean Clifford is no Trace McSorley, at least not yet. Clifford was a bust last week against Pitt and this week on the road, he’s facing a defense that ranks in the top 25 in yards allowed, which could lead to another down game. The wide receiver that works best with Clifford is K. J. Hamler, who has been targeted 15 times in the last two weeks. Journey Brown leads the team in rushing with 175 yards, but again Maryland ranks high in rush defense, sitting in 10th and only allowing 73.7 yards per game on the ground.
The Terps’ Anthony McFarland is leading the team with 225 rushing yards, however last season in Happy Valley, he was held to 12 yards. Josh Jackson has -16 yards rushing on the season and I prefer dual threats in CFB DFS, so no thanks. Dontay Demus has 19 targets with two touchdown and seems to be Jackson’s top guy.
DFS Targets: QB Sean Clifford (PSU), WR K.J. Hamler (PSU), Anthony McFarland (MD), Dontay Demus (MD)
San Jose State @ Air Force (8:00 PM KICKOFF)
Spread: AF -19 | Total: 56.5
This game has the largest spread and Air Force should run away with this one. The fact that they are ranked 2nd overall and averaged 56 rushing attempts per game, leads to RB Kadin Remsberg, FB Taven Birdow, and QB Donald Hammond III as the only players that have my interest in the Falcons. San Jose State’s defense is allowing 166 yards on the ground per game and less than four yards per carry, but they haven’t faced a ground attack like this yet.
For the Spartans, I have some interest in Josh Love because of his price on the sites. He is a great Superflex, who is coming off a 400+ yard game against an SEC team. His favorite target is Tre Walker, who is a dynamic player as our very own Ryan Clifford tweeted it out.
DFS Targets: RB Kadin Remsberg (AF), RB Taven Birdow (AF), QB Donald Hammond III (AF), QB Josh Love (SJST), Tre Walker (SJST)
Arizona State @ California
Spread: Cal -4.5 | Total: 42
This game has the lowest total on the small slate. Add in that California ranks 61st in the nation in total defense, allowing 336+ yards per game and the Sun Devils defense allows 352 yards per game. The players that I think can be used are running back Eno Benjamin and wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk.
DFS Targets: RB Eno Benjamin (ASU), WR Brandon Aijuk (ASU)
Best of luck!
